How do I use a house on a Lot I own
« on: August 08, 2013, 09:46:03 AM »
Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I have a couple questions and they both have to with Editing/building, I think.

1.  I created my family in Dragon Valley and bought this huge 64x64 lot that is empty.  I found a couple houses in the saved/stored houses catalog but when I try to place them the game won't let me.  It will let me select them and drag them out to the world but when I try to place them on the lot it won't let me place any of them.  Is it because my sims are standing at the mailbox waiting for a house to appear or what am I missing?  I am very novice at editing the town mode (just found it 2 days ago).

2.  Since I couldn't place one of the existing houses on my lot, I started trying to build one.  It looks ok except for the roof.  I am trying to do the castle look without owning the castle wall stuff/add on.  I have my couple of odd shaped tower/turrets built and wanted to put round (pagoda) roof's on them.  Flat roof on the rest, however some of the wall are at a diagonal and if I try to do the roof myself I get these little 1/2 squares sticking out over my house frame...how do I get rid of them?

Thank you for any assistance or advice.

Welcome to the forum Lareda!

1. To place a house on the lot, you need to evict the family living on the lot first. Next you need to place your desired house down on the lot. Finally, place the family back on the lot and enjoy their new home! Make sure there is nothing on the lot by checking that there isn't a house sign above the lot in Edit Town. If there is, use the bulldozer in the bottom left corner of the screen. If there isn't an empty house sign, don't use the bulldozer.

2. Have you tried the diagonal wall tool? In roofs, it is the far right tab. Sometimes, the appearance isn't great, but nothing a little fiddling about can't fix.

Hope this helps a bit!

Thank you, but now I have another question...how do I evict and move them back in?  Do I have to move them to another house first or what happens to them when they get evicted?

It's kind of hard to explain, but I'll give it a go. In Edit Town, click on your household. Along the bottom of the window that pops up, there should be some buttons. Hover over the first few until you find the one the says "Evict". Click that. There will be one pop-up that asks if you want your sims to move out with their house. You want to only move out the household, so click the button that says something along those lines. Click yes to all the notifications that come up afterwards (All actions of Sims in this world will be cancelled, do you want to proceed, etc.). Your saved household will appear on the left hand side of the screen. Save them to the bin (Click the household, it's a button in the lower right somewhere) and build on the lot. Afterwards, go to "Switch Active Household", place your family and play.

I don't think I've missed anything, but feel free to ask a question if I have.  :)

Note: If it's a castle you want, there is a building contest going on now where people create castles without any store content. I highly recommend checking it out. I've found some great stuff from Building Contests before! You can find them under the Swap Shop.
