Comparing methods of moving sims to another town
« on: August 03, 2013, 01:34:05 AM »
I have never moved my sims from one town to another, but am now approaching the moving stage in my Random Town Jump. I know there are at least two ways to do this: the old method of saving the family to the bin and the new way with patch 1.55 to use the phone or computer.

So, now I would like to have your insights on the pros and cons of the moving options: the handling of stuff in inventories, effect on family relationships/family tree, file size etc. Is there any difference?

I'd say that the patch 1.55 AE method is much easier to do. Effect on relationship is the same (all outside moving sims is gone), and you're given the usual choice if you want to take furnishing with you or if you want the money.
But to get the house with you, you'll need to save it to bin before moving.

Mahmeya, do happen to know what happens with real estate? If I've purchased the bookstore, for example, when I change towns will I still own it?

Any real estate you own is automatically sold when you move to another town, and you get your money back. Thereby you can buy the bookstore, or whatever else you want, in the new town.

Thank You!
Does this go for vacation homes as well?

Thank you for your input. :)

What about file size - is there a difference between the two methods?

The file size, I think that it will be more bigger with the 1.55 patch move option, because it will retain all the relationships and many other stuff...

I'm afraid that's not correct, Dan. All the relationships outside the moving sims family will be lost, just like Mahmeya said in a previous post.

There seems to be one major difference between the old and the new method. If you save your family/household to the bin in right bottom corner, you can later place them wherever you want, either in a new world, or in one of your existing save files. The patch 1.55 move on the other hand always creates a new game, just as if you had clicked on the + sign, chosen a new town in the drop down menu, and so on.

Angelique, that's why I wrote ''I think" in my post because it was a supposition. I didn't try the new method due some glitches mentioned by Crinrict on her blog . ->http://sims3.crinrict.com/en/2013/06/moving-to-a-new-town.html

Yes and No- In your new town you will start at their day 1, but you'll be the same age as when you left your old town
