I am pretty sure this question belongs here, but if not, could someone please move this thread to where it belongs?  Thank you.

I am wondering, it is something that I am thinking about doing in a project story.  So I would like to know how it affects the offspring.  I am bouncing around in my head some different ideas of which direction to go with it, and I need some information to help with how this would affect the game, do I need to switch to one of the other ones.

Question:  The goal of the project is to see how each town affects the looks of the next generations.
What I am wondering is, if I do a makeover of the looks of the family, change nose, mouth, eye shapes, will it have an affect on how the offspring looks before he or she is born?  So basically if I have Billy Bob from SV marry Susie Q and move them to DV and do a makeover will their offspring look like the original parents or will they have some of the features of the parents with the makeover.

I am going to make the assumption that if the heir is born before the jump he/she (and before the makeover) will have the parents genetics look and so that won't affect the games goal.
I am just wondering if I can do the change before the pregnancies or even earlier, such as when the heir ages to teen or YA.  Or do I have to wait until after the birth of the new heir?

Am I making sense?

I have a feeling that if you change his appearance before you have the couple Try for Baby, that the baby will take genetics from the new appearance. (Although I suppose the baby might borrow some traits from the grandparents, even if the son no longer looks anything like his parents) Now, if he got a makeover after the pregnancy showed, I'm not sure. I don't know exactly when the game decides what the baby looks like, whether immediately at conception, at some point in the pregnancy, or right at the moment of birth. My guess (which I have no support for) is that the game decides at birth, and that the time in between going into labour and the birth itself is sort of like a disguised loading screen for the baby's genetics, but again I have no idea.

However, once that baby is born, I don't think changing the parents' appearance would impact anything.

I am fairly certain that the babies appearance is determined at birth - unless it was changed in a patch at some point in the last year. I have, in the past, had a baby born followed by a crash long enough after to see some signs of their appearance. Upon reloading a pre-birth save the resulting child would be different. These days I save so often that I have no idea if that would still be the case though.

I will either review one of my other plans or chose to have the parents do a makeover after the heir is born then.  I can let them have one and then immediately have another, or a set of twins and do the makeovers.  Then I don't have to worry about it affecting the genetic aspect.

Bouncing different ideas around in my head to find something that fits with what I hope to be able to do.

Thanks for the info

I would assume so if it's before the pregnancy, Not sure about during it though.

My theory is that it happens at the time of birth. I once was playing the Ursine family, and between then and when Claire gave birth Jared turned into a Fairy. When the baby was born, she was also a Fairy.
From the moment I fell down that rabbit hole I've been told what I must do and who I must be. I've been shrunk, stretched, scratched and stuffed into a teapot. I've been accused of being Alice, and of not being Alice, but this is my dream. I'll decide where it goes from here.
