Name: SANDCASTLE COVE
Lot Size: 40 x 40
Bedrooms: 1
Bathrooms: 1
Cost furnished: 64,914
Cost unfurnished: 45,336
EPs: WA, AMB, LN, SHO, SEA, UL, IP
SPs: OLS
Store: NONE

Perfect for a mermaid couple, and with room to expand for a family, this lush oceanfront property boasts a beautiful pool, a soothing hot tub, a scenic waterfall and an abundance of coral to help merfolk feel comfortable on land.  The house is based on a sand castle design, but decorated with a modern touch.  The interior colors echo the coral outside.

I wanted a lush, fantasy feeling for this mermaid build, so I went wild with the coral, flanked the main entry with seahorses, and created a sparkling, turquoise pool.  For the house, I was going for a sandcastle look.  The interior decor is designed to be simple, to contrast with the abundance outside, but I still wanted to give it a mermaid-y feeling -- so there are lots of seashells, nautical touches, an accent of kelp leaves in the kitchen, etc.

There is a telescope in the detached tower and a bookshelf on the main floor.  There's also a TV, desk and kitchen with counter seating.  Upstairs there is a double bed, dresser and sofa, plus a small bathroom.  The upstairs is currently an open loft with a glass wave half-wall so you can see down below.  Adding floor tiles to the rest of the upper story would allow for expansion into a second bedroom, studio, or whatever you need.

(To build this lot, I demolished Crystal Waters Beach (downhill from Castillo de Ichtaca, in a horseshoe shaped cove) and placed a 40 x 40 lot extending into the ocean.  The lot was centered in the cove, and placed as far up onto the beach as possible. Depending on exactly where you situate your lot, you may have to adjust the slope of the terrain into the water to match it up with the surrounding land. The terrain paints should blend seamlessly, no matter where you place it.)

Gogowar329's Comment:

"Firstly, I'd like to thanks Ausette, Lilygirl and samoht for another great contest and congratulations to intl_incident and ladybug for creating such great builds. I thought that I'd actually be coming third!

For some reason, the contests that involve different life-states even though I very rarely play Sims that aren't human... I straight away had a vague idea that involved that horrible island out the back. It took me at least double the time to get the island looking right then the rest of the house. I also tried to use a lot of coral and other colours from the sea throughout the house and tried to have something water (e.g. fountain) in every room."

The thread is now open for comments! Congratulations Gogo!  :)

Congratulations, Gogowars329!  That little island entry was pure genius, and I loved the opening in the floor, too, like the mermaids could just jump in the water after dinner or something.

Ladybug53, I really liked your landscaping and your bedroom décor, and when I saw the big fishtank in the wall, I was kicking myself for not thinking of it. Really clever.  Constructive criticism would be that the house was a little boxy, and I didn't understand how the Spanish items fit in with that, though I thought they looked nice on their own. I personally wasn't overly fond of the blue exterior walls, but that's just a matter of my taste versus yours.

I'd love comments on mine.

Thanks intl_incident and ladybug.

@ladybug I loved your entry and actually used it for some ideas for my own. You had some great things in there, like the pool and the roofing.

@intl_incident Wow, just wow. Your sandcastle looks absolutely amazing. I love it! The landscaping and the look is perfect but the only flaw was little relevance to mermaids.
