Gardening "Unknown Seeds"
« on: June 22, 2013, 08:26:55 PM »
Hello there. So when I go out and get seeds from outside, there are plenty of unknown seeds, ranging from uncommon to special. I was wondering if there was anything that could possibly identify those seeds, like if you picked up a certain type a certain amount of times. I have a guide book about the base game and I believe it says something about that happening. If anyone needs me to quote it, tell me. My point is, is it possible to identify unknown seeds?

The SwiftGro Station from the store will identify them for you but sometimes it gets buggy.

The only other way is to just plant them.   Plants are in very specific categories so you will only get that range of plants from that type.  Example:  limes and watermelons will only ever sprout from uncommon.    Special seeds are the most varied but there actually is a way to figure them out generally.  If they are worth $0 then they are either money trees or death flowers. And I think I heard somewhere if they won't go in the fridge then they are money trees.   Another way to tell is if you have indoor planters from the store or supernatural.  If it won't let you plant the seed it's a money tree.    Other special seeds are plasma fruit, life fruit and flame fruit.   Plasma fruit seeds will glow red and require Late Night.   The other two one is a bush plant and the other one is vine that requires a stick.

You can find a lot of information on Carl's Guide to Gardening too.

Thanks for the info. I was trying to get at the prospect of figuring it out before planting them, but I guess that's alright. This info does make it a bit easier though to find the right ones. I'm looking for those money seeds, but it's hard to sift through all the special seeds found. Thanks anyway!  :D

Just hit the little triangle in the top corner to show you all of the ones you've collected.  Find the ones that are worth zero and plant them.  Once you have one money tree - you'll get plenty more.

I've also noticed Money Tree seeds tend to be more golden in color that others. It seems to vary between players but, as I recall, the difference is fairly slight. Just scanning over them, you'll miss it. Scrutinize them carefully and you should see it.

If you zoom in and look closely at the seeds while they're on the ground (not in your inventory) ones pulsating with a reddish light are plasma fruit seeds.

Those are the only ones I know of that have a tell-tale sign before being picked up and planted.

I found out a method how to identify them, but that requires UL expansion. If you let a sim with science skill "scan" (or analyze or how's the action called) the seed, and the action is successfull, you'll get a sample in your inventory. Sample of the plant's seed (it'll say something like "flame fruit seed" or "lime seed", not "unknown rare seed" sample). That way, you know what it is. But to know which seed is which with multiple seeds, you'll need to fin a way how to not mix seeds up - possibly having them in a chest, taking away one, analyze, plant if it's a seed you want or put in other chest if you don't want to plant it yet, and repeat.

On level 9+ you can even clone them. So if you're in need, make a few samples of moneytree seed, clone, enjoy!
