Rabbit holes and resorts
« on: July 23, 2013, 11:40:59 AM »
Is it possible to build your own resort 'tower' and then give it a rabbit hole thingy to make it a proper tower that sims use as such? If so, where do you get the rabbit hole item?

The three styles of tower that the game gives you are annoyingly restrictive in terms of style!

Thanks  :D

Short answer: nope. You need to use the towers that are available in the game. I too find it a bit annoying because it takes the control of the design out of your hands, but we have to live with it. Actually, the Spanish and the beachy theme isn't too bad at all. I can't warm up to the modern design thought.

Without custom content, no. If you don't object to custom content, look at Mod the Sims for rabbit hole rugs.

Thanks for the replies! In my current build I've hid the tower with lots of trees and shrubs!  ;)

I find it weird that in a game that prides itself in everything being customizable, that they would introduce these huge items that aren't customizable whatsoever.  :-\

I think you can build walls around the resort tower and place doors where the sims go in and out.

I wish I had thought of that!  I'm not playing at present, but, when I next play, I'll definitely be giving it a try.

However, one possible problem strikes me,  I am concerned that unless at least two doors, one front and one back, are placed the dear little simmies may have routing problems.  I also wonder if it would be possible to place a roof.  Any ideas anyone?

What about building a basement and using the moveobjects cheat to place a tower down there. Then build a staircase up to the surface and build something around the stairwell.
I just gave it a go and it worked, I've upgraded the tower twice so far and things are going fine. I have an ocupancy of 40/40 and I'm making a profit of about 1,500.

You can see in this pic I have a pool, a dining room plus a reception area with toilets. The stairs going down are in the reception area. Note that this was just a slap up building job just to test the underground theory.

In this pic, you can see the tower underground.

You absolutely can do the underground thing, and the bigger the basement, the more towers/rooms you can have down there.  Just make the top level look gorgeous resort- ish and you're good to go.  For me, I'd put the stairs right in the reception area.  Remember to leave room in the rear of those towers as Sims try to go out both front and back doors of the cottages and you'd have pathing issues if you don't leave space.
What?  Grannies can't play games?

Do you know how much space they need? Is one square enough or better two?

I found they need a couple of spaces otherwise they just stand there waving their arms around. I'd actually be inclined to say nothing less than three squares beyond the back of the tower.

Twinmum - is it safe to build on TOP of these underground lots? As in, if you build the basement, place the rabbit holes down there... can you build on the top level (above ground) without issue?

yes, you can build whatever you want on top. It's funny the way it works.. the basement is only normal depth, but you can even put a huge tall building down there. When you are in basement view, you can see the whole building, but once you get above ground there is nothing. I've done this before with rabbit hiles that didn't suit what I wanted in the town. Just place the rabbit hole building downstairs and build whatever you want up top.
