Sloped/triangle walls
« on: October 15, 2011, 11:18:41 PM »
Whilst browsing a well-known CC site, I saw a house with the most awesome sloped floor-roof. It had sections of skylights, and it just looked awesome. It is also on the exchange: [Link removed - Ausette] (are you allowed to upload houses with CC to the exhange? If not this might be a revised version and I might download it - I don't want all the CC in my game from the one on the CC site)  My question is, how do I get the top of a wall to slope the way I want and stay that way when I level the wall bottom and/or ground?

The trouble is I can't get just the top to stay angled. Either both the top and bottom are angled, or both are flat, and I end up with only the two side pieces being angled, and the rest inbetween at normal wall height. It works just fine for the wall on the first level, but levels above that just don't seem to work.

If anyone knows the exact sequence of CFE on and off, or can point me to a tutorial, that would be great.

You can upload them perfectly well. CC is uploadable like anything else.

EA doesn't mind CC, and you're allowed to upload it to the official exchange. However, we don't support CC on this forum, so I had to remove the link from your post. The link to the forum rules is in my signature. If you're discussing how to make a piece of CC work for you I'm afraid we're unable to help.

I think you misunderstood: I don't want the CC, I want to know how to make the walls at that angle. The one on the exchange doesn't specify any CC, but the one on the CC site does have some, because it appeared in my game when I downloaded it, and I had to redo my entire sims folder to get rid of it - uninstalling the house didn't get rid of it.

All I want is to get my walls to do that so I can make a cool roof like that.

Edit: I backed up my sims 3 folder and then downloaded it from the exchange this time - it didn't have any CC that I could see or find in my game. It still beats me how he did the walls and roof like that, so if anyone knows how, I'm dying to know! I'm sure CFE is involved, but it doesn't work like that for me.

Oh, okay  :). Sorry Chuckles, I think the mention of CC websites confused me. You can put that link back if you like.

I don't know much about CFE, I mostly use it to make foundations different height. Perhaps the roof is made from sloped floor tiles, not walls?

Actually it is both. His walls look like this:

Mine end up like this:

I can't seem to keep the angle on the top of the wall no matter how I try it. I've tried all sorts of combinations, but I must be missing something

Hmm. Perhaps you could make that triangle-shaped section of wall then delete half of it, leaving just the sloping edge?

What do you mean by deleting half of it? The bottom half? The side bits? I end up with the same result either way. As soon as I try to make the bottom edge of the wall flat, it messes up the top edge.

I think they use stairs to get that perfect slope. I remember I've read something about such homes on a modding site. If you're interested, I can find back the link. Just tell me (probably better in a pm).

I found this tutorial for a slanted floor tile roof that might be of help. Not sure if it's what you wanted but you can look and see.

Awesome!!! That is EXACTLY what I was after!!! Thankyou so much Grim! Someone should sticky that tute or add it to the building tips list!! (If it's not already - there are so many ways to describe that, that my search parameters may not have picked it up)

Your welcome. Glad that was what you was looking for. I just ran across it a few days ago myself and had it bookmarked.

After seeing it I'm sure it started to come back to me. I must have used something like this in TS2. Perhaps it was for a curved thatched roof... I remember using a much less complicated scaffold to make a swimmable pond - but that was way back when, when I loaded up my game with CC.
