Yahoo! Game NOT crashing
« on: June 21, 2013, 03:41:50 PM »
My game has FINALLY, after more than a year, stopped crashing, it seems. I got 2 extra GB of RAM, adjusted my graphics' card V-Sync settings, and lowered the high detail lot settings to 1 (I thought it would be much worse, but I got used to it and don't even notice it anymore). I'm not sure which of those 3 things (or which combination of them) did the trick, but my game is running, and smooooooth! No more lags either   ;D.

I just thought I would share what I did, maybe it will help someone else. I had tried literally everything else so I'm really excited!

And I wanted to thank everyone here for the help! I would have ended up playing frisbee with my disks if not for you guys.  ;)

I'm betting more than anything that it was upping the ram to 4gb that did it. Glad it's working for you!

Yeah, probably, but I was so sick of fixing the game more often than playing that I just did everything together haha.

Anyways, thanks to you Moons for ALL your help!  You have been so great!  :)

My only issue right now is overheating. Strange enough but it always happens, not only when playing. It had never happened before but somehow the computer shuts down out of the blue after a few hours of use (either Sims, or Microsoft Office, Chrome, whatever). I'm using a laptop cooler and it seems to work, but it's weird that it had never happened before. Maybe the new jack power, who knows. But I'm stressed out with university and working like crazy the whole day to get all the papers done so I'm using the laptop more than I should anyway. Maybe it just wants a break, poor thing  ::).

I'm glad to help. :)

Your laptop is probably overheating because of the extra ram. It uses power just like every other component in your computer. The power supply unit in your laptop can only handle using so much power before it overheats and shuts off. When you have two sticks of ram, your computer divides up the responsibilities to the two sticks, but each stick needs its own power.

In short, it's overheating because you have a new component that is causing your computer to use more power than it was using beforehand. Your power supply unit has a limit it can use before it shuts off.

Ahá! Well, I can live with that, as long as the laptop doesn't melt or get fried. The cooler does help though, it always happens when I forget to use it. Restarting it more often would help? I always use the hibernation option because otherwise, turning the laptop on takes forever.

Thanks again, Moons, you're the best!

Now that I've reread my post, I didn't say exactly what I meant. By using more power, the psu, and laptop in general, is heating up more. When it reaches a certain temperature, the computer shuts itself off to prevent melting and other serious damage. The thing that would help most would be a cooling pad, which you're already using.

Great! So my game doesn't crash and my laptop won't get fried. Awsome!  ;D

Thanks again, Moons.
