I know the description for this contest said that steampunk style is "dirty," and I do love that part of the look, but I'm a fan of the elegant, cleaner side of steampunk as well, so I aimed for a cottage that could serve as a home base for a scientist and adventurer when he's not adventuring -- when he's had a chance to wash the dust from Al Simhara off his boots, to settle back into a more comfortable lifestyle and to get back to tinkering with his inventions.
Clocks, gears, pipes and an overabundance of brass trimwork cover the exterior of his small cottage, hinting at the technology inside. Upstairs there is a utiliarian inventor's loft that also has a chemistry set, a gem cutter and a newfangled brain augmentation device cobbled together from spare parts. A telescope and time machine are on the veranda, and there's an excavator in the front yard. A double bed and small bathroom round out the upper level.
The lower level hints at the adventurous life of the owner, with an office for adventure planning and a dining room with an airship chandelier over the table. There are also a a TV and chess lounge, a sitting room with a stereo and a kitchen with a bar for entertaining his colleagues from the science facility. (All of the appliances and electronics have been "steamified" to look as though they function using Victorian-era technology.)
