Why is the paper on the back porch instead of the front porch?

My papergirl has me stumped.  The most recent house I built has both a front and back door, both with stairs and porches the NPCs can access with ease.  Every morning the papergirl ignores the front door (set as the front door, no less), walks into the backyard, walks up to the backdoor, complains about a pathing issue, then drops the paper on the back porch and leaves.

I've tried replacing the back door, thinking it was somehow permanently set as the front door, but nothing changed.  I can lock the gates to the backyard, but I want NPCs and visitors to wander in and out freely.  The front steps to the porch are set back two squares and there's not much on the lawn, so she has space to put the paper down in the front part of the house.

Anyone seen this behaviour before?  Any suggestions I can try to get delivery in the front for a change?  At this point I'd be happy with the paper getting hidden in the front bushes each morning!

It sounds like she's trying to reach a door or a spot that she can't get to but the backdoor is the closest to it.  A picture perhaps to see the layout?

The unique thing about this house is it uses the seasonal lot marker.  I doubt that's the cause of the wayward paper, but it is something I haven't used on a home lot before.  Right now I'm playtesting the house with plans to upload it to the swap shop, so I'm trying to make sure this isn't some kind of Bad Thing before I share the home.

Is it possible the front door is installed backwards?  Do doors even have an outward/inward orientation?  It never seems to have mattered before.  I'll try flipping the door to see if that changes anything, but that's the only idea I have right now and it seems pretty far-fetched.

Try moving the easel/item on the front porch.  Looks to me like he might be trying to place it in your kitchen as a space near the front door and can't get there.

Well, it seems the paper needs to go inside, no ifs, ands, or buts about it!  The strangest thing is all of the other sims use the front door (maid, mascot, visitors, etc).  But the papersims are just too stubborn.


I deleted the back door completely, and they still pathed to the back porch!   


After turning the back door into an archway this is how the paperboy decided to deliver the papers.  It's not even the closest free spot near the front door, so it's doubly confusing.  He seems to choose there or at the end of the counter/island as his favourite dumping grounds.


I love the irony of his champion thought bubble when he finally leaves the paper on a porch (too bad it's still the back porch).

Ah well.  At this point I'm inclined to let them stomp their silly little feet each morning.  If anyone knows how to retrain them I'll try again, but I've got other bugs to hunt at the moment.

Which way is the door turned?  I still think it's because there isn't enough room next to the door on the outside.  Be it the couch, easel, plant or what have you.  The paperboy/girl can't place something within the green part of the door or the stairs.

Expand the front porch out two or three squares maybe. Just as a test

Or just click on the front door from inside the house and designate it as the "front door." It has worked for me.

Edit: I think you have to do it when your sim is living in the house.
