Dive well connections question
« on: June 05, 2013, 01:17:37 PM »
So I want to build a tomb of sorts with several dive wells.  I know you can connect dive wells together, what I want to know is, can you make them one way?
For example, Divewell A is on floor 1, Divewell B is on basement lvl 1, and Divewell C is on basement lvl 2.  Is it possible to connect Divewells B and C to A, but not to each other, and not have a route from Divewell A to either of the other two?  Idea being it provides a way to leave the tomb, Divewell A would be placed near the entrance, but when you come back, you have to go through the tomb from the beginning instead of taking Divewell A back to B or C where you had last left off exploring.  If that makes any sense.

I haven't played with dive wells before, but there might be an option to make them one way only.

If you can't, and you want to block off the Dive Well A(s) from being used on a second trip, there's probably a way you can use traps or secret doors to do it.  You might be able to have a secret door that auto-closes and can only be opened with a switch on the dive well side, preventing sims from getting through on the non-well side.  Or you could have the opening of the secret door to the exit cause floor traps to constantly fire, creating a sort of wall to prevent access to the wells.  Or hidden floor switches could be used to lock doors behind the sims, making sure they can't return the same way.

There's lots of options to get the effect you want.  Hopefully the wells themselves let you do everything you need!

Yes, one good way would be too have a switch near well B, that unlocks the door to well A (Because it's in a separate room near the beginning) So that you go through well B, end up in well A and walk throught the door that was previously locked. Or maybe you could use a keystone, for replayability's sake. I could diagram it, I'm not good at explaining.

Well I'm still diagraming this as it is, though still in my head.  I could possibly try sketching a not to scale drawing of the idea and scan it in.

I believe there are Ultra Dive Wells (they may have a different name), they are connected to specific Dive Wells. I believe the connections are one way. A can link to B, but B only links to C. C links to B and A.

It's been a while since I've used them, so I could be wrong, but I thought you could connect them to specific wells. For instance, name one well "A", one "B", and one "C". You could then add an Ultra Dive Well link between A and B, by specifying the names between two, whereas a normal link would just be to the closest well. Even if they're on different lots, the well works. I tried this, creating an exit to a tomb under the stadium, when the tomb was under City Hall.

Oh, I think you're right, Ultra's are specified, normals aren't.
