Shelf life on Inventory items

Is there one? I'm talking harvested stuff from the garden, fish caught, things like that. I've put prepared meals in Inventory and have had them spoil pretty quickly, but it seems like other things last almost indefinitely, or at least for quite a few days....haven't done any serious testing.

As far as I have been able to tell, fish caught and items harvested have no shelf life per say.  They stay good indefinitely whether in inventory, laying on the ground or in the fridge.

I have never had any vegetables or fish go bad either. I have played lots of gardeners/fishers who has carried those things around for weeks and weeks, I don't think they ever spoil.
But meals go bad very fast. If you get one of those opportunities to cook something for someone you need to put the meals in the fridge until right before you deliver them.

Kind of weird how cookies will go bad in a matter of hours but fish lasts for weeks in your pocket...

Thanks, guys. That's good to know because I've been wasting time in the Max Skills tourney going to the grocery store too often to unload things. Yet one more thing I'll do differently with version 2.0 in that event.

Yeah you don't have to sell anything unless you really need the money. I just hang onto it and use it for bait. Also vegetables are a nice lunch for fishing trips and such.

I've had produce go bad in my inventory, but it was in my Legacy family and could easily have been passed down for a couple of generations.  I was bad about not selling it off and letting it grow to ridiculous amounts.  There were only a couple of times in 10 generations, but I did get the message that the Sim was disgusted by the bad food in inventory and it was really old produce.  If you're playing a single generation Sim, I don't think it will be an issue.

That's hilarious, Pam.  Yeah, I think it's safe to say that no one would want to eat an apple passed down from their great-great-great-great grandfather.

Reminds me of them eating the 100 year old egg on fear factor from years back.... Anyway, never had anything my Sims catch or harvest spoil. Only prepared foods

Hmmm, no wonder my vegetables never spoil.  I never go past my 5th generation.  :\
