My create a sims 3 keeps messing up whenever I download extras.

Okay I've been having some problems with my sims game. I'll go to Create a Sim and it'll load forever and won't actually work. I've already tried uninstalling and then reinstalling it and it'll work. But then I'll go to Sims 3 Exchange and download stuff, and then it won't let me create a sim. Is there any way to fix this problem!?
