New computer/how to transfer old files
« on: May 10, 2013, 08:17:00 PM »
I recently purchased a new computer and have installed my Sims game and expansion/stuff packs. Now I would like to transfer my old files into the game, but the file locations aren't matching up. Where they were located on my old system is not where they are located on my new computer. My old computer had Windows XP 64 that was upgraded to Windows 7 and my new computer also has Windows 7. I always install using the default locations and settings but, as I mentioned, the files are not in the same locations. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

You've looked under your Documents on both computers and they are missing from the old one?  The path should be  My Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3.

All you need to do is, using a USB device, transfer files from the old computer to the new one, placing it wherever the corresponding new location is.

That might've come across as simply restating what you've tried, so here's an example:

In Windows XP, the path to your Sims data (save files, etc) is C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3, correct? On Windows 7, it is C:\Users\Username\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3. Simply transfer the files from where they are to where they should be. For instance, a file located at C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Screenshots\screenshot.jpg should be transferred to C:\Users\Username\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Screenshots\screenshot.jpg.
