A Past on Pause - Chapter 7: Garrett (April 30)

Really interesting. In these first chapters, you have introduced the story well and created many characters that we don't know too much about.

I am hooked.

I loved how the part where Izzy was thinking about all the possible things that could be within the basement.

Chapter 7: Garrett

Blood pounding in her ears in time to her racing heart, Izzy spun around to her left. Placing a cool hand on her damp forehead helped still the spinning behind her eyes. She was vaguely aware of Tanya’s “Oolf!” as her elbow made contact with Tanya’s ribs.

Blinking quickly to clear the fuzziness, Izzy noticed the shape of a broad-shouldered Sim standing next to the closest pile of boxes. Two deep breathes and the world felt normal once again. Izzy lifted her head and looked in the direction of the voice.

“Hey! You’re the guy from my party, the rude one that couldn’t grasp the concept of socializing with actual Sims.” Izzy pointed at the man’s chest, as she felt Tanya poking her shoulder.



“What’s wrong with a guy checking his email when the DJ’s playing noise that doesn’t qualify as music?” said guy retorted.



“Um Izzy ...”

Izzy shook off Tanya’s second poke. “Why would you crash a party just to sit in a corner by yourself? Parties are for fun and dancing, and talking and laughing, with the sims around you!” Izzy took a step towards the guy, her voice rising. “And why were you crashing my party anyway?”

“Actually, I was invited by ...”

“What?!” Izzy hissed spinning to face Tanya after a third poke.

“Nothing.” Tanya shrugged, “But wouldn’t a better question for him be: why are you here in my basement?”

Tanya’s comment brought Izzy swiftly back to the present and she turned back to the blonde-haired Sim. “So? Why are you in my basement? Who are you?”



“I’m Garrett Colburn. I’m a ... researcher, currently working on the history of the Hedrick family here in town, ... among other things.” He glanced around the basement rubbing the back of his neck. “I carry my laptop around at all times in case I get an important email. Some of the things I research are time sensitive.”



“The Hedrick family. That’s my last name. Are you researching my family? Why are you researching my family?”

“I can answer that question by giving you a tour of your basement, starting with our young piano player here.” He gestured towards the young woman seemingly unaware of the three Sims standing behind her. "This is Evelyn Nix, your housekeeper."

At the risk of repeating myself... WOW!  I'm so intrigued.  I can't wait for the next installment!
