Downloading households on exchange

Hi,

I know you can download households on the exchange and play them but it you download a maid do you have to place her into the town in order to get her to work for you?  How does that work? I did an advanced  search on the exchange because I only have the base game and over 8000 pages came up, alot of interesting sims and households.

Maids are only generated by the game.  If you down load a maid from the exchange, she will never be a maid in your game but just another household like any of your Sims.

Be careful when downloading from the exchange though.   Remember that people include CC in some of them.

Custom Content.  These are items made by someone other than EA/didn't come with the game/Expansion/Stuff pack.  This could be hair, clothes, furniture, tattoos, accessories and patterns.

Adding to what Rica said, the reason we advise caution when downloading from the Exchange because of the possibility of third party content (CC) is because there is no way to regulate the CC made by other people.  It has been known to cause a good deal of trouble in the game if you get a bad piece.  And you won't know you've got a bad piece until it messes with your game.  It's true that there are a lot of beautiful things on the Exchange, but personally, I stay away from them.

There are a few people who are VERY conscientious about keeping their creations clean and free of CC and don't use them themselves in their own games.  Some I trust are follyfoot, LariFari2009, who does amazing recolors to the point they don't look like standard EA patterns, and our own Agneza.  Even there though they could inadvertently pick up a "sleeper" cc without knowing they have it.  I have totally given up on downloading patterns from the Exchange as they often have caused problems and I only download builds or characters from the above mentioned few.  I love the really gorgeous and fanciful Sims that some create but it is so obvious they have used CC hair or such I just don't take the chance.

I'm also cautious on the exchange. The only items I've ever downloaded were linked from Carl and Pam's, such as Carl's tutorial houses.

I'm not very cautious with the exchange, I download lot's of things I like. I just run it through custard and remove all the bad cc
