Where Is My Visiting Foreigner?

My Sim invited her fiance from China to come visit.  The message said he would arrive at 9:00 a.m. the next day.  Well, I realized at about 10:30 a.m. that he never showed up.  The doorbell never rang and nobody in the house was talking to him.  I watched for him for a couple of Sim hours, but no luck.  What am I missing about how to have foreigners come to visit?

One of my Sim's had this happen, it was most likely just a gliche. Or, it could take three days, because he left on that date; I am not certain.

Mine usually come earlier than the 10:30 time and they don't ring the door bell.  You really have to pay attention because they don't stand right by the door.  It's weird.

My visitor said he was going to show up at 8 or 9 a.m., but showed up in the afternoon like 1 or 2 p.m.  I wondered if this was going to work better than in TS2's Bon Voyage, but I guess not  .

Yesterday, I had the opposite happen. One of my Sims invited one of her male friends from China over. He showed up (didn't ring the doorbell). He hung around all day, and around midnight, crashed in the guest room. The last time I had a foreigner from France come, she left at midnight. Is there a set length of time the guest stays? The Chinese vistor kept having "heart" thoughts over his head everytime Lara walked by. I really wanted to send Harrison to Egypt to continue his dig but there was NO WAY I was leaving Lara there with the visitor after what happened with my other Lara in that weird freak pregnancy thing in Egypt so I asked him to leave. 

Just curious. Anyone have a foreigner just not leave when no "ask to move in" option was ever used?

When I invited my guest, I don't remember there being a set number of days for the visit (like in TS2 BV), after the first night I just asked him to spend the night again and he did.  I think if you want them to leave, you just have to ask them to leave or say good-bye like a regular visitor.  My foreign guest left on his own when my Sim finally had to go to work.

I know this topic is old, but this is the exact problem I'm having, and I want to know if anyone has found a solution.

I invited four foreign visitors from France over to my Sims house, but they never showed up. The "Invite Margot Petit to vist" wish (which is why I went ahead and invited her and 3 other sims) has not disappeared. I did get the message that my visitors would be arriving soon and I should prepare for their arrival. It has been just over one Sim week since they were due to arrive, and no one has shown up. The option to invite foreign visitors is still grayed out and saying that I need to wait for the current group to leave before inviting anyone else. I even tried using the reset sim command on all four that were invited and that hasn't helped. Is there anything else I can do to fix this?

The one time I was successful in inviting a foreign visitor, he showed up at my door the next day.  I got a message that I should greet him soon so that he doesn't feel unwelcome and leave.  I wonder if they showed up, but you somehow missed it and they wandered off.  When you look in your relationship panel, do you see the house icon by their pictures?  Can you call them or anything?

I had the same thing happen Pam.  The funny thing is, I called the sim again in the foreign country or tried there was no option.  In the friendship panel, it showed they were in town.  So I called and invited over and said "sure, be right over".  I waited and waited, so I went on a foreigner hunt.  I found my foreign sim at the park.  So I talked and invited them over.  They finally came over and then left soon after that and went back home.  I doubt if there is much we can do about it, but it is frustrating that it is not working right.  I had a foreigner freeze in full run by the mailbox and wouldn't move until I did resetsim and then they vanished.

I get the foreign visitor wishes ALL the time, so far I have never had the wish fulfilled even when the visitor arrived.  At this point I just right-click those types of wishes and move on.

I know that I didn't miss them. I didn't know how they would get there (car, taxi, teleportation maybe? XD ), so I zoomed out to watch my entire lot when I got the message they would be arriving soon. They never got the visiting icon. They did show up in the call long distance menu, though I didn't try to actually call them. (I was only looking at how to spell their names so I could reset them) The problem has fixed itself now, though. I went on another vacation, this time to Egypt, and when I got back, the option is no longer grayed out. I don't know if I'll have the same trouble again. It seems like it's a universal glitch. Thank you for everyone's posts here. They did help.

Thought I might share my experiences with visiting foreigners, and they've been varied. So far this is what has happened:

• Invited over a foreign visitor, they agreed but never showed up
• Invited over a foreign visitor, I got the message saying they have arrived, and they have rung the doorbell.
• Same as above, but they never rung the doorbell, just hung around outside
• Foreign visitor arrives, but I never get the message and they don't ring the doorbell

They have also stayed for random amount of time. I had one which just never left, had to ask them to leave. Another one I threw a party for him and half way through the party he up and left, with no warning. I was like, hey, where's he gone. Most of the time I have to ask them to stay the night though, otherwise they'll just leave. However there doesn't seem to be a set amount of time that they stay over.

So, not sure if the 'issues' with inviting foreign visitors are glitches or if it's EA's way of adding randomness in. Hope this helps.
