Gardening: Wilting Bell Peppers
« on: May 22, 2013, 07:27:07 PM »
I have four Bell Pepper plants, one each of Nice, Very Nice, Excellent and Outstanding.

This could just be the way bell peppers work, but the Nice and Very Nice peppers are wilting Every. Single. Day. I actually had one die because my Sim took "too long" to get around to watering it. Now I create an action to water those two and the watermelon individually, and cancel the actions if he goes off to water other plants first.

Somehow I missed fertilizing the Nice plant (probably while it's nice), and the others all have great (or excellent, in the case of the Outstanding) quality fertilizer.

Is this just the way Bell Peppers work, or am I doing something wrong?

I don't know what the game code says, but I have noticed bell peppers and watermelons pretty much wilt every day in my gardens.  It's why I always set a sprinkler down to water the plants for my sims.  I just turn it on and leave it on if none of my sims can upgrade it, or if they can it's upgraded to auto-water the garden each morning.

The more rare a plant is, the more watering it needs.  For example, tomatoes are common and can go probably 2 or 3 days without watering.  Bell peppers are rare and need watering every day.  I, too, use a sprinkler to make sure everything gets watered as needed.  You can find it in Buy Mode, on the Outdoors tab, under Outdoor Activities.  You can turn it on and leave it, or have a Sim with some Handiness skill upgrade it to water only in the morning.

That makes some sense, thank you... It doesn't explain why the "Outstanding" and "Excellent" ones weren't wilting. Are those just wilt-resistant?

Once I rebuild his garden back up, I'll definitely remember that sprinkler trick.
