Base game

Random question...

If i already have sims 3 installed plus all the expansions, what would happen if i then re-installed the main game on top of the old one, with doing an uninstall..

Like I said random, but i'm curious

I don't think you can reinstall if it's already installed can you?

It will come up "game already installed."  I do know that much.  I don't think there would be a reason to install  it over the other one anyway.

But would it be possible to uninstall the base game with affecting the expansions?

We are always told to do a complete reinstall but why? I have done that a couple of times and although it does iron out a few bugs it ends up the same, and unistall re-install is looooong!!

My understanding is that you can't uninstall the base game without uninstalling all the EPs with it.  The EPs update the GameData file that comes with base game.   If you don't install the EPs after base game then that file never gets updated and you'd have to reinstall everything anyway.
