Return to the Netherworld
« on: October 28, 2009, 05:49:35 PM »
Hey all,

Tried posting this last night - was going to do a pic but it didn't work for some stupid reason - but anyway I digress..
 :)

So I have this family that I've been playing for a long time now. Dean Koontz (writer of course!)  ;D Wife Kelly. She recently died of old age. One of the things that bothered me most about her death was the fact that out of all the sims I have had, these 2 were NON STOP hugging, kissing, embracing - all the time. I mean at one point I was just like ok enough.. seriously..  :D

So she died, and their daughter Olivia was given the option of completing an opportunity by taking the remains to the Science lab. Great! Wonderful! I can have her back...be careful what you wish for.  :-\
Experiment goes awry, but I'm able to control her, and she's back in the family.

The problem then became that Dean really didn't even want anything to do with her, AND to make matters worse, she was always scaring him, making negative points in their relationship. Honestly that just really broke my heart to watch (omg I need to get a grip) because they were just so much fun and cute to watch (most of the time)

So I see the option to "Return to the Netherworld" so I'm thinking to myself last night ok let's just do that and forget the whole "wife's back from the dead yadda yadda", and Dean's on day 91 anyway so he's going to croak at any minute..  ;D

So I save the game then proceed with the option... DUN DUN DUN! <insert evil, conspicuous music here> She disappears BUT no ashes / tombstone nothing!

I read somewhere that the urn or tombstone should be back on the lot where the person was, but nothing!

Anyone else run across this? Obviously, I didn't save it but now I'm curious!
I will love him and squeeze him and pet him and call him George!!

I also read multiple threads on other places that indicate the tombstone or urn should fall to the floor where they were when they used it. Keep a look out because it may reappear once they've been gone so long. I don't see any console commands to get it back, unfortunately. You seem to be at the mercy of the game on this one.

Carl thanks!  ;D I didn't save it so I'm going to go back in to before she did it. When it happened, and I didn't see it, I had her oldest son go back to the graveyard to "manage the dead" but she wasn't there either. I think I might experiment with this one though. Now it's just one of those things that's going to bug me! (kinda like the autostacking thing LOL)  ;)

I have come across people complaining of a glitch with invisible tombstones. There will be a ghost appearing on the lot but no grave to be found anywhere. Maybe that's what happened.

Haven't posted in a while - been sidetracked. Well, I started playing another family trying to do the "legacy" challenge without cheating.. OMG, can I just say how HARD that is without $$$??  :P Though it is a challenge, I have to say, it's much more satisfying when you can actually AFFORD the nice toilet hahah!

I think at one point my sims practically lived at the gym!! HAHA!  ;D Anyway - I have an update on the whole death thing, and some of the weird things that have happened to me. (if you guys read my other post, this is the family that every time one of them gets married, someone inevitably dies at the party - so help me, it's just freaky!! ) Grace seems to be the culprit - here she is at the Bistro, and one of the Joline family members croaks right in the middle of the conversation..(I'm thinking black widow here but maybe that's just me)

Anyway, the first wedding, Malcomb Landgraab bit it, and even though his daughter was standing right there, she kept fainting, and somehow the urn landed in my inventory? I guess I'm wondering why I ended up with it instead of his relatives, 2 of whom were at the party. Ironically, it was the "party of the century" which I thought was hilarious considering.. guess no one liked Malcomb!  :D

The next day, I had the one sim who was friends with Alisa Landgraab visit the house with the urn in her inventory. I tried every single friendly option, and there was nothing that I could do to give back the ashes! I think I even tried using “special”, with the schmoozing thing and the charisma but no option. So my first thought was to just drop off the ashes at their house and be done with it but I thought that would be mean so I took them to the cemetery instead. Right after that, I went into the edit town mode, because I wanted to  see the layout of the cemetery since I was thinking of creating my own, and when I went back in game, darned if those ashes of Malcomb were back in my inventory AGAIN!! I got some message about how items were returned but I thought nothing of it until I saw the urn!! I was like ARE YOU SERIOUS?? I can NOT get rid of this guy!!

Same thing happened when the 1st set of Sims I had created died. Ended up back in my inventory, even though I created a community lot and put the tombstones there. It seems that there is a bug in the edit town mode and tombstones.. Carl, if you figure this out or have any advice I would appreciate it. It’s ANNOYING to have those tombstones back every time I go into edit town.

I think that if any Sim dies on your lot, you get the ashes.  I've had that happen more than once.  If you really want to get rid of Malcolm, you can place his grave and use Build/Buy to delete it.  I've done that, too, when I didn't want to bother going to the cemetary to place it.  I thought the problems with edit town were only when I went to my private cemetary, so it's interesting that it happens with the public cemetary, too.  I've never tried to edit it, so I've never had those graves come back to me.  I'm sure you could place Malcolm again and as long as you don't edit the cemetary, he should stay put.

Also, another member recently posted that if you have a masoleum in a private cemetary that the issue with graves coming back to inventory won't be a problem.  I haven't tested this, but from what you said it sounds like may it's not correct because you had it happen at the public cemetary where there's already a masoleum.  I'll have to test this and see what I can find out.

Back to what bogie was saying about the disappearing urns/tombstones: From what I've observed and did, when it's night the tombstones give up a fog animation. After a while the animation will show where you sent your ghost to the netherlands and a couple days after that the tombstone will appear.
Also there was a glitch where the tombstone might be inside an object (but highly unlikely because this only happened to me once). If it doesn't reappear after a while then it's just glitched. >:(
