How soon can your child leave the house and do his own thing?

Last question (hopefully) about my son. I'm sorry, but I've never did this in The Sims 3.

Now, I don't really know what I want my Son to be, when he grows up. I kind of prefer the game to decide for me. So I thought of just "kicking" him out of the house (or him moving out on his own) when he reaches his Teen years, and let NRass StoryProgression handle it for me.
Can I do this, or do I have to wait until he's a young adult?

You have to wait for YA.

There might be mods to allow you to kick out/move out teens by themselves, but in an unmodded game, your kids need to be young adult or older before you can move them out by themselves.

Now, you could move you teens or even younger kids out, as long as they have an adult going with them.

I would highly recommend that you fully read Carl's guide to Babies and Toddlers and use the links to Children and Teens at the top and fully read those as well.  Most of your questions should be answered by the guide along with some great tips you might find useful.
