Death by - Hot and Sour soup?

Okay, so no one died, but it was a very close call. Just made me wonder if anyone had ever seen anything like this.

I had 3 family members sitting at the dinner table. One was eating Hot and Sour soup. I was focused elsewhere. But I've learned not to stray too far for many reasons. The kid who's eating the soup has the fire reaction, but it blows out of control.

I happen to look back and there's a huge fire in the dining room. Of course there's no fire alarm there. The table, several chairs and my 2nd generation heir are all on fire. Chaos ensues. Eventually, both parents put everything and everybody out. But the poor girl was on fire long enough that I was worried I'd add a new way to botch a dynasty attempt.

Because I like hot foods IRL, I cook a lot of stuff with the Ghost Chili. But I never imagined you could burn the house down with it. Has anyone ever seen this?

Yes, and it was a challenge file too (not a dynasty though). Scared the crap out of me both times it happened, as someone else just had to eat the leftovers. Luckily they were living outside so the only thing damaged was a chair and a table both times, but still...after the second time I decided I didn't care how expensive that dish was, my sims were not going to eat the rest and any wishes to eat more of it would be ignored. None of my sims have eaten it since.

Yesterday my sim ate some chili and ended up setting the dining room table and chairs on fire after she finished. She and her daughter was jumping around, screaming their heads off until the fireman go there. The fire was getting out of control and was spreading, so a second fireman popped up to help the first one.

All of this over a bowl of chili.

Is it possibly related to the breathing fire animation? When Sims eat spicy food, sometimes their reaction is to literally breathe fire - perhaps the two are related?

That's exactly what happened in my case. For the most part, my sims just had steam coming out of their ears, but the last couple of times they ate the dish, they breathed fire one right after the other.

I was trying to save my game at some point while my sim was eating some sort of spicy food. A notification popped up if I wanted to save my game while there was a fire on my lot? My first instinct was panic since it didn't automatically relocate to the scene of any fire. I scanned my house carefully and couldn't find anything. So I pressed play to see if anything came up and nothing happened. I suppose is was simply my sim breathing fire or something at the exact same time I tried to save the game. Luckily nothing caught fire but I'll have to keep an eye on that.

That's rather unfortunate, I don't necessarily make the meal, but my guests bring one dish or another every time I throw a party so I get a ton of spicy food for leftovers.

Please forgive me for reviving this somewhat older thread.

I have never come across any of the foods mentioned in this thread.  Does the Ghost Chili that the original poster mentioned only come with a certain expansion pack?  If so, my guess would be Supernatural, since he or she called it Ghost Chili.  I only have WA, Ambitions, and Generations, and like I said I've never run across anything like hot and sour soup or any kind of chilli.

Yep, it's from Supernatural, the ghost pepper plant - I hadn't thought about the ghost reference before now though, good call!

That was fast!  Thanks for the reply, smartburn.  Now I guess I have another reason to be tempted into buying Supernatural.
