About compatibility
« on: July 14, 2010, 12:34:12 PM »
I have Spanish versions of Sims 3 and WA (I'm from Mexico) and I asked a friend who is currently in the States to buy Ambitions for me. So I was wondering if there could be compatibility issues because I had problems installing my WA and I really don't want to spend money on something that won't work.

I'll really hope I made sense. XD

Thanks.

Hmm, I know that some American electronics won't work in Europe since they're in another zone or something and I know that that applies to PS3 games (or so I've been told at least). You may have a Spanish language Sims 3, but since you're Mexican, won't you nevertheless be in the same "zone" as the States? Someone else here needs to say something more definitely (I'm not very good at these things), but that's my first reaction.

I don't know for sure, but I think it would be risky to install a game purchased in the U.S. into a game purchased in Mexico.

Don't you just choose what language the game will be in during the first or 2nd step of installation?

Probably, but I still can't speak for sure about any compatability issues.  I don't know how EA has it all set up.

What I at least know is that a computer bought in the US won't work with cables and such you buy in Europe. I checked it up and PS3 games on Bluray discs are not influenced by regional lockout.

Wait, I just checked it up on wikipedia (everybody's 110% trust-worthy information source, right? ;)) here. If you check on the "main" regions, it seems as if the 'North America' region covers all of North America (thus also Mexico) and large parts of South America. As said, I'm not good enough to give a definite answer in this, but it seems as if US games normally work in Mexico. :-\

Well all my game boxes are in English, so it is possible that it's the same game and it was me who chose the language settings (i really don't remember but it makes sense). Still, I think it's kinda risky and I really can't waste money or crash my game, so I'll just have to wait for Ambitions to be available here.

Thanks a lot for your help. <3

Btw this place rocks, someone on LJ recommended this site and I'm loving how helpful it is. The only problem is that after reading some threads, I want Ambitions even more. =/
