Please Help - Backpack inventory stuck full, can't continue playing

Hello all!

Apologies if this topic has been covered/resolved in the forum before, I had a quick look but I could have missed it.

Here's the issue. I'm playing The Sims 3 Pets for the Xbox 360 platform. The "Backpack inventory" for the family I'm currently playing has become full (at least, the orange bar dictating the inventory capacity is maxed.) Normally, I remove a load of items, the bar decreases a little and I can continue playing with no problems, but now something really annoying has come up. About a minute into gameplay, the backpack inventory screen pops up, and as usual is full. I start deleting items but the bar won't go down. Even if I clear out the inventory. The game won't allow me to back out of this menu, so I'm forced to restart. I also can't tap RB to move across to the other inventory areas.
Essentially, I'm stuck and can't continue playing.

I have tried quickly opening the household inventory via the Build & Buy menu and clearing out everything i have in all the inventory's, but as soon as I move across to the backpack inventory, it traps me in the menu and the whole problem starts again. I really am at a loss here 

Is there a solution to this problem? Or am I just being really stupid and missing something super obvious? If you have any ideas please don't hesitate to put them forward. My aim is to be able to carry on as normal without having to delete or restart this family.

It happens if you have a dog quite often for me.

I've never experienced this.  I have the same game but for PS3.  I had a glitch to where my game would freeze when I was trying to continue on the same save and do a new create a sim after my sim had died on the first save.  I had to delete my save and start over.  If this continues you might have to do the same.

 Ive played Sims 3 and Sims 3 pets on both of these games this has happened to me, my Xbox is quite small one 60G this would happen to me if my families where to large 5/6 to many hope this helps.
