Do University job appear back at home?

I don't own University yet, but I'm attempting to update the rules of a project to include Uni.  Do inactive sims back in the main town take the new university careers on their own?

As far as I know story progression has to have one Sim working in every job available.   But if you join one of those careers then townies will automatically populate it so you have co-workers too.
