The Worth of Simoleans
« on: July 12, 2010, 02:52:23 PM »
You all know that there are a lot of differences between prices in real life and prices in the game.
e.g.: A detached house --> $ 15,000

Do you have any nice examples of this? I found some of those things rather funny...

How do we even know that simoleons are linked to the USD rate?

Maybe it's a currency in some weird country where you can buy a house from your savings from 10 work days because houses are poorly constructed and jobs are highly over-payed? :)
Seriously, the amount of time sims can invest in their simoleon-gathering may make it so that high-value stuff are under-priced and low-value stuff are over-priced just for the game balancing.

You mean Sweden? Hehe, just kidding...

I know, Swede, but some of those things are rather funny. A car as expensive as 25 pizza's, that's just wrong...

The Simolean as a unit of currency confuses me.  Some things seem too expensive, especially groceries.  I have never seen one apple cost three dollars ANYWHERE.  Or bought a rubber duck for forty dollars.  And don't get me started on the hundred dollar bath soap.  Apparently these people shop at the high priced organic niche stores.

Then, things that should be more valuable are too cheap.  A hundred dollar gold ingot?  Are you crazy?  You mean, the gold ingot that would allow me to make several hundred dollar gold bracelets, right?  The amethyst stone that's only worth fifteen dollars?  Or the twenty-five dollar rubies?

I think I gave up when I bought a Prius for less than what my first ever car (which was 15 years out of date and in questionable condition) cost.  But I guess if a sim can start a job and make only $100 a day, anything is possible.

I love the fact that a new book from the bookstore can cost more than a new couch.

That is why they call it a "game" hint, hint, LOL.  I do know what you mean though, but never really thought about it until now.  I guess I don't analyze things, just like some people will analyze movies, again, "it is only a movie"  ;D

I remember my very first game.

Naturally I knew jack about the game but I'm one of those dive in and figure it out kind of people. I plopped just about my whole start up budget on a cheap house and went grocery shopping. I was shocked at how little money my poor Sim had. After that I figured some stuff out and I guess I didn't think about the prices again.
