*Note: I am determined to get a good story out there without having such terrible computer issues! And the reason I chose to do this "Legacy" here is because it doesn't follow the rules of the Legacy Challenge due to story progression mods and the way I am choosing to play the game. I also want to make the story as interactive as I can (not quite sure how yet). Thanks for giving my story a read!
This is Alice Webber. Alice has always been talented. She lived off her talent since the day she left home. She didn't have a troubled childhood, she wasn't overly spoiled, she was just Alice.
Alice earned everything she owns. Starting from rock bottom, she made a living off of her paintings. She enjoyed her beautiful town of Appaloosa Plains, though she didn't go out often. Her paintings were in high demand, and mainly left her house to go to the consignment store to sell them.
When she wasn't at the store or painting, she often felt alone. She wasn't a loner, she just was a natural lone wolf. She longed for a friend or a pet, but never found anyone.
Her routine normally consists of wake up, eat, go sell paintings, paint, eat, paint, sleep. She took her everyday taxi down to the store, just like every other day. She thought of talking to the driver, but couldn't think of anything to say, just like every other day.
When she got to the store, she noticed that the normal consignment clerk wasn't there, and that in his place was a blonde, tall man. He looked at her in awe, he must have been a new employee who enjoyed her art.
Alice asked, "Have you been here long?"
"Yeah, I've lived here since I graduated school a few years ago. Today is my first day working here, though."
The only people Alice really knew were the few constant buyers and clerks at the store. She realized that she had lived there for over 5 years and had never truly explored the town. She decided to skip her normal routine, just this once, and go look at the town.
Alice decided to head to the nearby library. She has an interest in books, but didn't have many at home. She looked around for a bit, but didn't find anything she wanted to read. She sat down near the entrance near a man who seemed to be completely entranced in whatever he was reading. He looked up and saw Alice watching him, and abruptly left. Alice was embarrassed and left just as quickly as he did.
Alice walked across to the street to the main park. Alice had been there once with her mom and dad when they were visiting her grandmother back when she was little. She saw a group of beautiful butterflies, and wanted to catch one to take home and paint. After failing a few times, she noticed a muscular man watching. It looked as if he wanted to join her in playing with the butterflies, she thought. But he just stood and watched until all the butterflies had flown away.
The butterflies at the park made her think of her mothers' butterfly tattoo on her shoulder. She went to the tattoo parlor, thinking about getting a similar tattoo. Today was a day to try new things, Alice decided. But when she got there, she chose to dance to the catchy pop music in the waiting room. Eventually others joined in, including a rich, well known playboy and another well dressed man.
It was getting later in the afternoon, so she decided to visit one more place before the day ended. Alice headed to the graveyard to see her grandmother. She never really knew her grandmother. Alice had very few memories of her, other than a few visits her family made to Appaloosa to see her. But when she saw her grave, it made her heart ache for her family. She cried and wailed and wished nothing more than to see them again.
Alice soon realized that there was someone fishing in the graveyard pond. She quickly composed herself and went to go tell him off for being so disrespectful to the dead, but he ran away before she got to him.
Alice stayed in the graveyard well into the darkness. It wasn't a full moon, so she knew it was safe. She sat there thinking about her family. Alice wished to be able to go back and change that, but she didn't even know where her family was anymore.
As she got up to leave, she noticed a weird glow coming from the intimidating reaper statue. She walked towards it, and a scary looking fairy with dark wings walked toward her from behind the statue.
"Alice."
How does he not know my name? She wondered. Maybe he had heard of her paintings.
The dark fairy approached her. Alice felt colder and colder as he came closer.
"Alice, you naïve girl."
What was he talking about?
"It really is a shame. We could've really used someone like you."
"What are you talking about?"
"Prove to the king you can commit to someone. You have exactly twenty four hours to marry a man before this condition becomes permanent. In exactly twenty four hours, your heart will stop beating. The King sends his condolences to any family members you have. Goodbye, Alice."
"Why?" Alice screamed at him with all her might. But within a few moments, the dark fairy had disappeared. Alice could feel the weight of the next twenty four hours in her shoulders.
What should she do? Who could she marry?
*Another Note: I would like to put up a vote here for what Alice should do to find a husband within 24 hours. If you would vote, please comment so I know how many people would vote. I don't want to have 5-6 options and only 4 people vote. If no one or not enough people are interested, I guess I will just decide for myself. Thanks for reading!
