Traveling while child is at boarding school?
« on: February 22, 2013, 09:44:42 PM »
My sims have a teenager away at boarding school, but I'd like to send them to France. Is it safe to do this? I know in the past boarding schools had bug issues, and traveling is notorious for causing crazy stuff to happen, and I've never wanted to risk traveling while one was away. Have any of you ever had a problem with that? I'd rather not have to wait until he gets home, since he has another week or so in game until he ages up.  However, a horror story about how doing so messed up your game might convince me otherwise. ;)

I haven't heard that this is a specific problem.  But to be on the safe side, be sure to save your game before leaving for France.  Then if you run into trouble, you can bail out of the game and go back to your previous save.  I'd also suggest making more than one backup of your game.  Just use "Save As" and give it a slightly different name, like "Game 1", "Game 2", etc.

It's anecdotal evidence, but I just had a dynasty sim travel to China while a teen was at boarding school with no major problems. When the teen came back, I was getting the multi-select portrait glitch, but clearing caches and rebooting the computer cleared that up. I'd still second Pam's suggestion of backup saves though.

I always do backup saves when I travel, because in the past I had some nasty surprises and I learned the lesson the hard way.  Thanks for the feedback.  I'll give it a try, then, and hopefully nothing will go wrong!
