Patch Question from a confused Simmer
« on: February 15, 2013, 08:01:23 AM »
Hi everyone,

First, here's my confession that I don't always back up my files before installing a new patch. But for the last patch that came out -- V 2.2 -- I just had this feeling so I dutifully backed up the whole folder. I am so glad I did because the game I was playing is pretty glitchy to start out -- large family, crashes a lot unless I baby it and save often. Well, I installed the patch and all of a sudden, everyone started randomly changing clothing one after another. So I deleted the Sims folder and re-installed my back up and then everyone was fine again.

Now, my question. Do I have to install every patch that comes out for my game to run smoothly? I am assuming that each patch addresses issues with either EPs or store content. So how do you know what to install and what not to install?

Thanks!

Installing the patches is a good idea, and it's necessary if you want to do any of Metro's challenges. There are a couple of things that can help.

The first is to wait until you get the new EP (if you plan on getting the new one), as that seems to produce fewer glitches.

The second is to go into Documents, open Electronic Arts, then The Sims 3, and pull your Saves folder to the desktop while you patch. After you patch, put your Saves folder back in.

For the Store Content patches (which this one was) - it might be helpful to look at the patch notes and see if you have any of the affected content.

As far as in general - some patches, especially recently, have seemed to break things along with their fixes. I usually find it helpful to wait a day or two and see what problems people report.
