Why am I not getting promoted on the Sims 3?
« on: February 07, 2013, 01:47:02 PM »
It's been over 2 in game weeks and I've only been promoted once. It seems like the green bar doesn't even fill up.

I'm a little confused.  You say your Sim as reached level 8 in his career, but has only been promoted once.  Each level is a promotion, so your Sim would have been promoted seven times to reach level 8.

Ok, so one of your family has been promoted many times, but the other has only been promoted once in the same period of time?  There are a lot of things that could be keeping your Sim from being promoted.  Is he going to work every day?  Is he increasing the skills needed for his job?

Yes. Last time I had the political career I went through it fairly quick. I'm doing the same thing I did the last time but this time it's not working

I would check to see if your sim needs skills or a certain skill level.  I don't know about PC, only PS3 for The Sims 3 Pets but for console it's in the same spot as the skills you've learned.  For example, if you're doing the political career you may need a certain level of charisma to advance to the next promotion or level.  It would highlight how many charisma levels you need to learn in order to advance.  Or, you may need to read a book about a certain subject or you may need to do something such as make speeches.  On the console version along with something like cowworkers, boss, for happiness it might say speeches.  If you don't do speeches you might not advance.  Like I said, that was just an example. Basically, check to see what you're supposed to be doing because whatever it is you're not doing it.  :)

Grim Reaper has a good point and the PC works the same way.  Also make sure you are working at work... meaning you have several options of what you can do while at work, "Normal work" "Work Hard" "Chat to coworkers" "Slack off"  make sure "slack off" isn't chosen... I think couch potatoes automatically chose this, where as Workaholics automatically chose the "Work Hard".  I like the "Chat with coworkers" because most jobs need you to have a good relationship with coworkers.

:)

(edited to add: assuming you have these options on Console... I didn't realize I was on the Console board  ::))

I needed to upgrade my charisma skill. on my last save I picked political after I did all the other jobs so i went through that career fairly quick. The status of the skill portion of the job was in bad/horrible and i was still getting promoted. It just takes FOREVER haha

On The Sims 3 Pets for PS3 you can't choose what type of work to do but it does sound interesting. :)

You can choose how your similar works on the base game for 360. I usually leave it so that my Sims talk at work or school. Ambitious Sims are great with workaholic. My trophy wife some was busting out promotions almost daily.
