Are These Common Toddler Bugs?
« on: July 07, 2010, 10:51:49 PM »
I'm not experienced with sim toddlers enough to know if these are long-standing bugs, new ones, or unique to Ambitions, or to my game. I haven't had much luck with googling them, either.

1)Toddler interacts at a distance: I queue the parent to interact with the toddler (feed, talk, etc.) but as the parent gets near, the toddler stands up, walks far away to the opposite side of the house or outdoors, does a stuttery turn, then waits...then the parent leaves the toddler's original location to meet the toddler in the new place before interacting with him/her.

2)Parent can't queue up an interaction with the toddler at all. It appears briefly in the queue and then vanishes immediately.

The first issue, in my game, it seems to be a pathing issue for some reason.  It seems they have to go clear across the house for one reason or another and then the parent finally picks them up.  It doesn't happen very often, but, yes I have had that issue before.

The second issue, if the toddler is playing with a toy that you had told him too and you tell a parent to feed or hold the toddler, you have to x out whatever action the toddler is doing, or the queue will go away.  I noticed that too and then when I x'd it out, it was fine.  If it happens anyway and there is no action, then that could be something else.

Maybe too many toys on the floor? Pegs and the xylophone take up so much darn space! I'm having the problem consistently when the toddler is in the small playroom, but there is room enough for the parent to enter and wait for the toddler to walk across the house. Baffling.

Thanks for explaining the problem with the second issue. I thought it had something to do with moveobjects during a very long remodel session, so I went back to the previous save and had to do the remodel all over again -- only to find the same problem occurring. :P

Those toys are small, but if you look at the green outline when placing them, they are quite large, but funny how the parents can sit on the other side and play with the toddler with the toy.  If you have kids, you need lots of open space, once I did that, I didn't have anymore issues with going clear to the other room.  I am still not quite sure, in some cases, why they do that.   ;D

The first issue is an old one.  I don't think it's actually a bug.  It's just that they need a lot of open space, like Salty said.

The second issue is new since Ambitions came out.  You used to be able to queue up actions with no problems at all.  But, again as Salty said, if the todder is acting on a command you gave him, the parent won't be able to do anything until you stop the toddler's action.  However, if the toddler is doing it on his own, the parent can go ahead and do something with the toddler.  I don't know if it's considered a bug that will be fixed, but I really don't like it.

It's always been that way for me, not just since Ambitions.  Strange.

Yeah, that is strange.  Until Ambitions, I could always queue up actions with toddlers with the parents with no problems at all.  Then Ambitions came out and knocked the wind out of my sails!  I find it very frustrating!

For the second issue, I've only found it to be a problem for certain toys. Don't remember the exact ones, but for me the problem is not there for all the toys I have, only some.
