Expansion pack icons

I installed World Adventures from a DVD, and it installed itself in a different directory from the original Sims3. It also gave me a new desktop icon.

I'm confused why I have two different icons to start the Sims, they both open up the launcher, so I am assuming one is redundant and can be deleted?

Yes you need to use the latest game as your launcher. For example, if you werew to but Seasons and install it, then go get Generations and install it, you still use Seasons as the launcher because it came out last.

So yes go ahead and delete the icons if they bother you.
