Problem with my sim's bedroom
« on: March 16, 2013, 05:21:19 AM »
Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post in.

When I started my current game I made my sim's home by hand. When they finally had enough money to expand it, I added a few new rooms onto the side of the house, including a new bedroom. The problem I'm having is, when my sims (or any visitor) comes home (or over)  they walk through the whole house into the the new bed room and stand there for a few minutes before they do anything. When they used to come home/over they used to stop in the entrance.

I've locked the door to this room so only the sim who sleeps there can get in. When I threw a party every sim walked though the little bar i set up, down the long hall way, then yelled they couldn't get into the room. Though it's funny to see 8 sims hanging out idly in the hallway, I just wanted to know if anyone has an idea on how to fix this?

The bedroom door hasn't been set as the front door by any chance has it. I would check all the doors and make sure the front door is actually set as the front door.

Wow! Thanks for the quick response!

I just checked and my front door is still marked as the front door. I have two doors that go outside and only household members can use the second one. There is no way to get to the bedroom door without going through the front door. I could post a picture, if that will help you imagine it better.

Perhaps try unsetting the front door and then resetting it a little while later might help. I'm not sure what else to do to stop them. Is there something in her room that they might be drawn to?

Okay, unlocked the side door and made the side door the front door. Invited someone over and he still walked all the way across the house and tried to get into her room. Made the front door the front door again. The other sim that lives there got home from work and still tried to get in.

I don't know why it's so popular, it only has a bed, a desk, a dresser and a laundry basket. It does have a bathroom connected to it but there is a bathroom that you have to pass on your way to it, if that is what they were going for.

lol, I have no idea either then. Trying to think of things to do that might change it. Try deleting the bedroom door and see what they do then, then after a little while add a new door.

Now I'm even more baffled. I moved my sims bed upstairs so she would have a place to sleep, while I worked through this. (and in case it was her bed, i would expect the sims to walk upstairs)

I removed the door from her room, then threw a party. All the guests walked down the hallway towards her room and then went into the kitchen, then actually started doing stuff in the house. After the party was over and everyone left.  I put a new door down. It was completely new and a different type of door. I waited till morning and invited a sim over. Sure enough straight to her bedroom. I hadn't even put her bed back into it yet.

Well I'm out of ideas sorry. I have no idea why they would gravitate to her room.

It sounds like a similar reason as to why sims walk all the way to one end of a lot, before turning around and going through the door they are supposed to, though I have NO idea what causes it. It's certainly very annoying! You could try going into edit town, and placing an empty lot - just anywhere - and then returning to the game. Apparently that makes  the game rebuild routing. Maybe that will work?

Thank you two for trying to help. I just got home from running errands and I've decided to scrap this family anyways (unrelated to the house issue) so we'll see if it happens in my next house. Thank you again.
