That is exactly how, just kick them out.  Go to computer, click move, choose "kick out".  Make sure you just choose the one you want to kick out and click the check.  No funds will come out of your balance. :)

If you don't have a computer handy, you can also use the Sim's phone (available as self-interaction or from the personal inventory), and choose "Move".

Or you go to town mode and click on the family to choose the option to split the family. Than the Sims that you wanted to be kicked out will be at the left top of your screen, waiting for whatever plan you have left for the Sims.
Be aware that if you go back to your game unchanged that Sim will be lost.
I am not sure if that also happens when you just quit the game but I assume it will be deleted than as well.

As stated, click on phone (or computer) and choose move, then chose kick out.  Make sure that he is the only one.  You will know when it asked is this your family?  And it shows who you want to stay in the house.  That sim should not be in the picture.

What I suggest is that you save before you kick the sim out, in case you click on the wrong button.

If you want to know where that sim went to, follows them to their new home, if they are given one.  The sim I kicked out, unfaithful husband, I followed him to the "pre-fab" home, basically a trailer.  Big change from the mansion he had been living in.

As for questions, I am still full of them and they haven't kicked me out of the forum yet,   ;D  so I guess you are still safe with asking more questions.   :)

Many thanks everyone.

I have managed it. I have 8 sims & a 3 storey house I was thinking of down sizing a bit but I'm attached to them all (sad I know) so I can't decide who to get rid of or what to do with them lol think I need to get out more.

Thanks again :)
