Edit town

If I go into edit town & switch to another household how do I stop my orig house sims doing their own thing?

I set them up with a load of tasks to do to keep them running along as I want them to while I'm in another house, but then when I go back they've gone off in their own doing their own thing.

As long as story progression is enabled, the sims will continue to survive on their own and do their own thing. They may do things you don't want them to do. To disable story progression, go into the gameplay section of settings and uncheck story progression.
