Finding the WA recipes
« on: August 09, 2011, 05:43:20 PM »
Heya all.

So I'm a bit of an idiot.  My family can no longer travel due to a bug with patch 1.24.  Unfortunately, I didn't get the recipe  books from the vacation destinations, and now I'm trying to supermax cooking.

Is there another way to get them, maybe in buydebug?  I know you can sometimes get them from the cooking channel, but I would like a bit more control over it then that.

I also tried putting the books register down in a community lot.  That didn't work either.

Not that this will help you with the WA recipes, but I had the same travel bug and I fixed it here.

You can also learn the recipes by trading kitchen secrets with another Sim who's a Natural Cook.  Unfortunately, you can only do this once a day, so it does take time to learn all the recipes, but I've had Sims who managed to do it that way.  Because my travel destinations have been buggy for a long time.

I'll try the active household trick.  That might work.

Thanks!

Have your sim that wants to learn the recipes join the culinary career. Invite your boss over and "Trade Kitchen Secrets" with him. You can only do this once per day but he'll teach you WA recipes.

If you don't want to change careers, then I guess you could always buy one of the restaurants, choose to fire a sim to bring up the list of employees but don't actually fire anyone, then invite the employees over. Should be able to get recipes from one of them.

If you have late night you can also learn by eating the recipes at the lounges. The fusion lounge has the Chinese recipes and the exclusive one has frog legs.

Other than that your sim can also learn by watching the cooking channel or eating at restaurants, but both are quite random.

So I switched active households.  No luck.

Thanks for the tip though.

And I didn't know about the restaurants or bars.  I'll give that a try too.

Thanks!

You actually don't need the World Adventures recipes to SuperMax the cooking skill.  The recipes from the base game will fulfill the requirement.  The hardest part with that is the cost of the Ambrosia recipe.  If your family isn't rich, you can get the Bookshop Bargainer Lifetime Wish, send a celebrity to buy the book and hope for a discount, or wait until there's a sale at the bookstore to help reduce the cost.  I've actually gotten the Ambrosia recipe from Trading Kitchen Secrets a couple of times.

Oh!  Whew!

Money isn't a problem for them, they've got oodles of money trees, so the Ambrosia recipie isn't a problem.

Thanks Pam!

I'd still like to have them eventually, so I'll see if I can learn them from someone else or from the cooking channel, but at least I know I didn't box myself in.

I recently had a Sim who learned most of the WA recipes from job opportunities in the culinary career and from eating at the bistro.
