I have not yet played in an open-courtyard house. Just my own that I have built

When you want to be something, the world can't define, open up your eyes.

I have both and I prefer Sunlit Tides. I found Monte Vista to look a bit boring, (the overall neighbourhood scenery) and i really only got it for the pizza oven. I like some of the rabbit hole buildings though, and I might replace some of the sunlit tides rabbit holes with ones from monte vista. I love the abundance of water in Sunlit Tides - the beaches in monte vista are pretty pathetic in my opinion. I don't play with townie sims much anymore, and none of the sunlit tides or monte vista townies made the cut to join my exclusive neighbourhood - but I did move my neighbourhood to the beauty of sunlit tides. I haven't played winter there yet, but I'm interested to try it! :)

I spent a lot more time in the last couple of days trying to get all my characters into Monte Vista, and I realized....I don't really like this world that much.  I found it harder to place things I felt I needed, like the alchemy consignment shop, and the fortune teller's trailer (which I ended up placing on a beach), etc.  Once I started placing all my Sims, I realized there wasn't as much space in MV as I thought.

It also is not as crisp in looks as some other worlds (like Moonlit falls, but also ST).  I noticed that I have not changed my settings at all (and they are medium/high) and yet the grass looks a bit more blurry/not crisp, and some other detail is not as defined.   I also don't think the beaches are at all satisfactory in MV.

It could be part of my personal playing style and the Sims I create--I think they fit in better in a place with a lot of beach access or beach view--but after playing for about 12+ hours, I just don't find myself being that drawn to Monte Vista.

In comparison, I'm sometimes busy building away and become absolutely stunned by how beautiful the landscape of ST can be.  And I just started playing Union Cove, and it has it's own appeal:  mostly the fact that it is so beautifully built!   But Moonlit Falls just fits me well, like an old coat I'm happy to slip into, and I suspect that UC aside, a lot of my games will be in MF or ST.

(edited because I meant to say "crisp" not crips!)

I like both worlds, really. I have not played a long game yet in Sunlit Tides, but I've started one in Monte Vista. I'm still trying to figure out the perfect family to go legacy in ST.

Both towns are well rendered and beautiful, though I suspect there are broken roads in Monte Vista. Overwatch kills about 4,000 cars a night in that town. That can't be good.

I bought both at the same time, thinking Sunlit Tides would be my preference, but I spend a lot more time in Monte Vista.  Both are awesome, though.  Sunlit Tides is worth it just for the massage table/sauna.
