Is there any benefit to setting favorites?  If your favorite food is pancakes and you eating a ton of pancakes. Is there a bonus.  Or if your favorite color is blue and your rooms are decorated in blue. Do they like it better.

I've been setting favorites myself and haven't noticed a difference.  I was hoping someone has.

I have never tried to test this, but, I would say the answer is no.

I quess it would be easy enough to test music and food favourites.   I might try this myself next time I play (right now I have a cold and don't feel like playing anything).

Set your sim's stereo to favourite music and note the value of the "enjoying music" moodlet, then set the stereo to another music type and check again.  Similar with favourite food.  I can't think how to test colour, sorry.

There is an increase in the moodlet for listening to a Sim's favorite music.   If your sim likes pancakes, they will get a yummy food moodlet for eating pancakes even when they are only normal quality.  Color does nothing.

A Sim will also clap in happiness when eating his favorite food.

In the beginning, it was thought that using a Sim's favorite color would give a nicely decorated moodlet.  However, testing didn't prove this out.  It's still nice to use the favorite color in different ways.  I made a topic that lists the hex codes for all of the favorite colors if you want to get the exact shade.

I like to base my Sims wardrobe to their favorite color, I may even recolor their hair to be their favorite color.  Its amazing how many people like "Spiceberry" ::)

That's the only thing I find useful about the color.

Question - if you meet a sim with the same favorite color/music/food do you gain friendship faster?

Edit to add - awesome information Pam, I always wondered about the exact colors for their favorites!!

No, I don't think so.  It's not like sharing a trait or high school.  It just comes up in conversation while they're getting to know each other or chatting.  If you're not watching the speech bubbles, you'll miss it altogether.

I'm glad to know there's a difference on favorite food and music.  I always set it for my sims and try to let them eat it.  Specially for a non-cook in the house.  I try to set the favorite food for waffles or pancakes something easy to make.  I also use kids music for a sim that has alot of kids running around.  I figure I win two ways....enjoying the music and chance of twins.

I always set the meal to Autumn salad... then there is no chance of burning the house down, and I don't even need a stove (for those empty dynasty/legacy lots - I can go a whole generation without a stove! haha!)  I would never set the music to kids, its aweful (I play with the sound on) and can't bare listening to it!  I usually set it to something I like classical or indie for example.

I've never really found anything in the code about this, even the new attraction system ignores favourites, but in just general gameplay observation I have often noticed my most played sim is attracted most to people who like electronica and cookies. I don't think she gains friendship any faster because of it but she always wants to learn their star sign, even if it ends up being incompatible, and is far more likely to flirt autonomously. If she starts behaving like that I can almost guarantee it's because that sim loves cookies or electronica. Nine times out of ten they wont have anything else in common whatsoever.

But as I said I can't find any coding to confirm that, it's just how my sim seems to be.

My sims autonomously turn on their favourite music in my experience. It might be a coincidence though.

The radio will play whatever the last music was before it was turned off. I've checked this.

Your right the kids music is awful.  But I usually have a real radio on for me I don't listen to the game music usually.  I usually turn the sound of the background off and just the sims talking on quiet.
