Car disappearing

This has happened few times with me now: I have 2 sims in family and I get them both a car. Then I send them to town to shop and get jobs (both leave with own car) one of them returns with cab. Car is not in inventory (family nor personal) but completely gone. There is no messages that it would have been stolen or anything. It has happened in different towns.

Has this happened to anyone else? Or is there any idea what to do about it (I had spent lot of time to get right color for the car so buying 3rd car is annoying).

I have never lost a car from my inventory, but my tabcast goes missing every now and again.  I have also lost other items (guitar, laptop, etc.).  My observation is that the lost items were last used on another residential lot (though I have also lost items to the library and the acadamy in China).  I have even found my items again, but been unable to reclaim them.  It seems they now belong to the lot they were left on.   I know that they were my sims' items because I usually re-colour items to the sim's favourite colour.  Did your sim, by any chance park on a town lot?  Oh, the losses seem to occur most frequently when the game is saved and exitted while the sim is away from home.

I lost the car from my inventory several sim days ago.  I saved last night, and exitted the game without realising my car was missing.  On my sims' first trip from home today I noticed the sim was using the taxi.   Sure enough, the car was not in the inventory and not parked on the lot.  I did a quick check of the town.  The car was parked in the road outside the last house visited yesterday.  When I hovered my cursor over it I got the "return home"  option.  I sellected "return home", and, though the sim was nowhere near the car, I saw the car dissappear and she returned home in it.   :)  I would suggest, if you have not customised your car to make it easily recognisable, try hovering over the parked cars in town which are the same model and colour.  You may be lucky.

I'm not sure, but if you leave a community lot and the car is still there, the car gets deleted. If found that out when I built a car park lot in Appaloosa Plains.

I don't know if you are correct about community lots, this is the first time I have lost a car, and I found it parked on a road.  Also, I don't think it was missing for very long, a couple of sim days at most.  I don't use mods, I understand, though, that there is one that deletes surplus cars regularly, so in this case, I'm glad I don't have mods.

I don't have mods either, my sim returned to the car park and his car had disappered.

I had made my car color to be my sims favorite color so I was able to recognize it several sims days later in parking lot next to restaurat where she had been, before losing it. I was able to take it and put it in inventory and sell it (I had replaced it). So now I know to make my sim go back to look for cars.
