Can my plants grown indoors like they grow outdoors?
« on: December 07, 2012, 12:43:27 PM »
So I made this house, a simple rectangular house of which half is living room and half is a floor-tile-less room(terrain DIRT-GROUND) where I want my sims to garden.
Will my plant grow normally in a room cover with roofs, walls and floor-tile-less room?  :) or does it have to have roof-less and walls-less surrounding ? :(

I don't think you can even put a plant in he ground in those circumstances, and for absolutely sure, your sims will receive it as an unfinished room and get negative mood lets for it.  Just buy some planters and grow plants in those.  They'll grow indoors and the good news is they won't go dormant like the outdoor plants do.

They did something similar with the greenhouse in the store.

They have plants growing inside in a situation like you're referring to. Maybe what they've already done will give you ideas?

Even with the greenhouse, if there isn't a gap in the wall, you can't plant anything in the ground, plus the greenhouse "roof" isn't really a roof.  The greenhouse doesn't change the fundamental inside/outside distinction for planting.

I haven't tried it myself, but I've read that if you have a closed room with exposed floor, you can turn on "moveobjects on" and your sim WILL plant in the dirt.  Again, I haven't tried it, but Twallan was the source and I trust him.  If you don't care about the negative moodlet for the 'unfinished room', then by all means, plant in the ground inside the room.

Planting directly in the ground is only possible outside, or in a room that is not complete (ie - has a gap in the wall) You can use the moveobjects cheat to plant indoor or you can remove a piece of wall, cue your planting and then rebuild the wall. There are a few problems however. Using an enclosed room with a dirt floor will give a negative moodlet for an unfinished room. Plants will also still go dormant throughout the colder seasons if you have Seasons installed.

I'm going to move this out of the Create A World board and onto the general building board.

With the "moveobjects on" cheat, can't you plant indoors without a dirt floor?  I've never tried to actually grow anything completely indoors, but I've used "buydebug" and "moveobjects on" to place plants indoors, and that seems fine.
