Going to be getting a new laptop...
« on: November 30, 2012, 12:49:11 PM »
And I was reading this about moving saved games over:
http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=4113.0

Is it the same with mods?
And for curiosity, here's the specs for my new laptop [I can't help myself, I know its not much to brag about but yeah :3]:
Its an HP Dv6 with the following:
Win8 64-Bit
8 GB RAM DDR3 [2 Dimm]
Second Gen i5 processor with 2.5 Ghz [overclockable to 3.1 Ghz]
nVidia GT 630M graphics card with 1 GB dedicated memory

Is this enough to run Sims 3 on middling-high settings without hitches? I do have a cooling fan that will fit this laptop, not to mention the space around it is pretty clear. I have all the EP, except Supernatural and Seasons [I'm not sure if its an expansion pack or stuff pack], and the following stuff packs: HEL and Fast Lane Stuff. I also use the following mods [All Nraas]: MasterController, Story Progression [and the cheaty submenu] and the Woohooer mod.

You also might want to get you a thumb drive.  I just had to move some saved games over to a new computer from my old one.  I just save the games on the thumb drive, install games on the new computer, put the thumb drive in and transfer the saved games over to the saves folder of the new computer.  It worked really nice. :)

It should work pretty well. The graphics card is decent and having 1 GB of dedicated video memory + 8 GB system memory means the system doesn't need to steal as much system memory to power the graphics. :)

That's pretty much the specs on my new machine and it runs the game beautifully!  I didn't realize how much I was missing--everything is so much sharper, and my dogs have fluffy coats now!

I love it!
