OK, I am planning to buy a new computer and have all the expansion packs plus the stuff packs. So when I install Sims 3, how should I patch the game? Should I install all the EPs and SPs first, then click on game update? Or install each Expansion pack then update the game followed by installing the other EP and then click on game update and so on?
Please advise. Thanks!

I recently did a complete unintsall (before I installed Supernatural). When it came to reinstalling, I just let the computer update as it wanted to. Obviously, it wanted to update after the base game and then there were smaller updates after each EP. I can't even remember if it actually gave me a choice to decline each update.

It's simple. Just install the expansions and stuff packs that you want, one by one. The Setup will automatically update the game when you install the next game pack. This is the order :
        The Sims 3
        The Sims 3: World Adventures
The Sims 3: High-End Loft Stuff
        The Sims 3: Ambitions
The Sims 3: Fast Lane Stuff
        The Sims 3: Late Night
The Sims 3: Outdoor Living Stuff
        The Sims 3: Generations
The Sims 3: Town Life Stuff
        The Sims 3: Pets
        The Sims 3: Master Suite
        The Sims 3: Showtime
The Sims 3: Katy Perry's Sweet Treats Stuff
        The Sims 3: Diesel Stuff
        The Sims 3: Supernatural
        The Sims 3: Seasons.
After that you can use The Patch Downloader from here : MTS - Sims 3 Patch Downloader by FordGT90Concept  to make sure that you are fully "patched".

When I go to install, the easiest and best way to do it in my opinion is install in order as Dan suggested and then between each install just open the launcher to patch.   It's quick and simple and sometimes it can be done simultaneously if it's a long install like some of the EPs but not some of the SPs.   Every game before Generations has it's own patch that really must be applied just to insure that nothing goes wrong and there is no need to download any extra programs.

Just one tip, try to enter the game after each pack is installed so the game isn't incredibly sluggish.

So you mean I have to play the game at least once each time after each pack and patch is installed?

Some people do that, but not everyone.  I don't open the game until I'm finished with the re-install.
