Problem regarding frozen lake
« on: November 25, 2012, 01:36:03 PM »
When do frozen lakes start to melt after frozen in winter?
I've played through winter>spring season and its mid summer now but the lakes in my game are still frozen.

I'm playing in starlight shores , the lakes in the big festival park and fishing lake community lot are frozen (both lots are default game content not mods)
No problem with the sea , clicking on it shows the swim interaction.

I most likely able to fix by delete replace the community lot but i really don't want to do that since it will reset the Sims especially in the park.

That is definitely not normal. You could try resetting the town using Master Controller by Twallan, if not you may just need to bulldoze the lot and place the festival lot back down... is the glitch happening anywhere else?

Thanks for the reply.

Beside park and fishing pond lot , i notice a vacant home lot with a huge pond was frozen too(non winter season) so i assume all ponds in my world are bugged.
I'm in the winter season again, playing through it and see if the ponds will revert back to normal in spring.

I tried nrass reset lot / reset everything /bulldoze replace during spring season but to no avail.
So the last resort is to replace a different festival big park lot , i test using sunset valley central festival big park but surprisingly the pond is frozen too.

Question - When do pond get unfrozen? Does it happens the same time snow slowly fades away (spring season) everything regain back it color?

I start to notice it around the 2nd-3rd day of Spring... sometimes the first. I'm not the best person to ask though because I never pay THAT much attention, and I never had a lake on my lot. I would assume once all the snow melted away that would be the case though.

Is this happening in other save files? Try a test of opening a new game on a new save file in a new town even, see if the lake still stays frozen... if it does it's a glitch that can only be fixed by a patch that is released by EA and you're probably not the only one experiencing it. I'll go do some tests in the next couple of days and see what I notice about lakes freezing versus when they unfreeze. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the temperature raising to a certain degree... Have you ever used cheats to set the temperature? Sometimes I know the temperature actually won't move when you set it. So if you set it to something like 35 degrees... the lake may remain frozen for longer... just a thought.

I started a new game to test - same world starlight shores , set each seasons to lowest 3 days , gamespeed 3 with camera on the park pond.

The pond start to freeze almost immediately when winter arrive , completely frozen skate-able when dropped around -4/-5°C
On the 2nd day  it rains and temperature climb up to peak 9°C  the pond was unfrozen fish-able in winter.
3rd day - snowing and temperature went down , the pond was frozen again.  It remain frozen all the way till 2nd or 3rd day of spring.
9°C seems to be the key temperature for frozen pond to start melting.

I did not use cheats to adjust the temperature (didn't know there cheats for this) , i did adjust per season days from 5 to 7 in game once in my glitched game.
Going to shift my current playing family Sims to a new neighborhood world and see if this bug happens again ... hopefully not.

I'm not really into fishing aspect in Sims3 but sure is annoying staring at a frozen pond during hot summer :(

Ok, it seems your glitch is simply in your save file.

Yes there are ways to set the temperature using the cheat "testingCheatsenabled true" while shift-clicking the ground.

I did that once for a wedding (It was frosting outside on a spring wedding... no frost allowed for a beautiful pink, green, white and colorful wedding!) I put it at 55, thinking the temperature would continue to climb but it didn't... it stayed 55 all day and all night until I removed the "set temperature" using the same method I used to set it.
