So I finally picked up Supernatural, and so far I haven't actually played, just looked around and edited the town. It's different for sure. Appaloosa Plains, my usual haunt, has that nice and compact downtown area with all the community lots close together, but Moonlight Falls is the complete opposite. And while Appaloosa Plains doesn't have much in the way of empty lots, Moonlight Falls has a bunch including a grand total of four 64x64s. Awesome! I love how the scattered lots and the many trees give the place an "on the edge of the wilderness" feeling.
What I'm not so keen on are most of the combined rabbit holes (aside from the school and the city hall) because they are so tiny and bland, with no decor on their lots at all. Just asphalt and parking spaces. Also, unlike with Appaloosa Plains there are no customized Ambitions lots (fire station, consignment store, salon, junkyard), and the default ones look odd in this neighbourhood.
What baffles me is that none of the empty houses support kids, but that is apparently par on course for "official" towns. I don't even like children, and I still feel bad at the thought of them being dumped on the floor like dirty laundry until they grow into the child stage and can use a proper bed. Also, the tiny one- and two-bedroom starters have pretty bad layouts.
It's hard for any town to contend with Appaloosa Plains because it's "my home" (like SV seems to be for many others), but with some editing I do believe Moonlight Falls will be a strong challenger. And since I like editing lots, it's almost a win-win situation. :p The overall "feel" of the town is important to me, and this one does have a unique charm.
