Cannot place commercial lots *solved*

I've been having a frustrating problem for the past 2-3 days.

I will designate a lot as commercial, choose the correct specification (such as "visitors allowed") and make sure the size of the lot is appropriate but when I choose the commercial building I want to place the commercial lot icons all vanish from my map. Not grey out, but disappear.

It does this in both existing and new towns I start.

Any suggestions?

Does it only happen in one specific town like Moonlight Falls or does it happen in all towns like Sunset Valley, Moonlight Falls, Riverview, etc?  Are they empty lots that you're changing?  An empty lot will either have the sideways diamond at the bottom like this or this .

It happened in Appaloosa Plains first and then I moved the family to Sunset Valley and the problem followed. The buildings I am trying to place are store bought such as the ice lounge, gothique library and stone throw green house. The lot I designate has the second icon you posted, the arrow pointing down.

I was able to place the Ice Lounge when I first started my game in Appaloosa, so I don't think the patch is to blame. I'm thinking maybe something got corrupted somewhere. Maybe there's a cache or something I can clear? Sorry I'm not very tech savvy

Ok I got it working: if I completely demolish the lot and place a brand new lot using the editor I can place venues as intended. It adds an extra step but takes just a few seconds.

If I was smarter I would have tried that first before blindly deleting files in My Documents > Sims hoping to delete the bug in the process. That did not solve my problem and instead I deleted most of my store purchases and some patterns but I suppose I could have done worse damage..
