Can't uninstall (extra) Riverview. [SOLVED]
« on: December 07, 2012, 10:59:04 AM »
If this is in the wrong section, I'm sorry.

I'm having a strange problem. I noticed I had two Riverviews in my game. That bugged me, so I decided to uninstall Riverview completely and reinstall it. I uninstalled it through the launcher. It's not there anymore, not in Downloads nor in Installed Content. I deleted the sims3pack from my downloads folder, there is no Riverview in my InstalledWorlds folder and I deleted the Riverview world caches. I searched for files containing Riverview through the Windows search option and found a couple in a save file. I deleted that save file. I have no other save files that play in Riverview. The weird thing is there is still a Riverview in my game. When I start a new game in this Riverview the names for the households show in file path way. Like this: world/Riverview/household/[name].

How can I get rid of this Riverview? It is really bugging me. Anyone know any tricks?

P.S. I couldn't find anyone with the same problem. If there is already a topic on it, I apologise. I couldn't find it.

This is a new problem for me, so, I have no idea what the definative answer is.

However, I wonder if a factory reset would help as I always find I have to re-download my store content after doing a reset.  Save the games you wish to maintain to a seperate folder outside of your sims folder (I always place a temporary file on my desktop for this).  Do the factory reset (see first sticky above) then move your saved games back into the saves folder.  It is a bit of a bother as you will lose all your personal saved styles and sims created in CAS (perhaps someone may be able to tell you how to save these).  Then go to the Store and redownload your purchased and free store content.  The factory reset returns your game to it's factory fresh condition.  I really don't know for certain if this will solve your problem,  but, it is something I would try.

Okay, thanks. It's definitely worth a try. It's sounds really time consuming, so I'll have to wait till tomorrow. As for saved and created sims, aren't they located in the SavedSims folder? I make a backup of my entire Sims 3 folder once a month or so. I can just do that and then just put back the Saves and SavedSims folder and reinstall the Store content. I'll give it a try tomorrow, if I'm up for it :). Thanks for the tip.

Great, I'm glad you will be able to keep all your personal custom date.  The factory reset is really very simple and takes little more than a few minutes.  Its the patching up and downloading of store content that takes time.  However, I think it took me quite a while the first time.   I hope it works.  Good luck.

I know, I just went to edit my first reply, LOL. I replied before reading the sticky about the factory reset. It is really simple. I don't have to much Store content installed, so that shouldn't take to long. I'm really nitpicky about these kind of things, like the extra Riverview. But then again, it is just an extra neighbourhood. I can still play the game. But the idea of a fresh game without a full reinstall sounds so good, LOL. Get all the junk out. Maybe something to do once a year or so. Thanks again. Wish I had the time today.

So, update: I just did the Factory Reset and started the game clean. The extra Riverview is still there  :o ???. WTH. I have no idea where this Riverview is supposed to be. I think I have a ghosttown in my game. I guess I should just install Riverview again and see which one of the two is the one that doesn't have the long file name problem. And just remember which one is the right one and avoid the other one. I have no clue. I don't feel like reinstalling all the games (I have every expansion and stuff pack) just for a double neighbourhood. Way to much work. I'll just have to live with it. Thanks again for the tip. I wish it would have worked.

EDIT: I just checked both of them. Started a new game in each and now they both work right. No weird file path names. I do not however get the "birdflight" part at the beginning of starting a new game. I do get that in other neighbourhoods, but not in either of the Riverviews. I'm completely stumped. Oh, well. At least they work. I'll just keep using one of them. If anyone ever does find a solution, I'd love to hear it.

So sorry it didn't work.  I'm really surprised.  I'm quite surprised too, that none of the more PC savvi folk here haven't been able to come up with something.  Hey, though, at least your game is squeaky clean - almost!

Did you notice, immediately after the clean, and before you returned your game files, was the second riverview showing on the menu?

Riverview is a store download item, so, it should not have been there.

You could try checking your C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\GameData\Shared\NonPackaged\Worlds folder, and the equivalent directory for each expansion that you have. It may have found its way into there somehow.

So the Worlds folder in that location should only have the world that came with that specific game? Like Appaloosa Plains with pets and Moonlight Falls with Supernatural? Are you seriously telling me that it's that easy? Because there is a Riverview in my C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\GameData\Shared\NonPackaged\Worlds folder  ???.  Deleting it would do the trick? I'm trying it and if this works I'm doing a happy dance.

"Doing a happy dance"  ;D  ::). It worked! Just one Riverview. I can't believe how simple that was. I sort of looked through those folders, but I don't know enough about them to really keep clicking. Thank you, you're a lifesaver.

No worries :) I only found out about that one when I was trying to install my own created world - there is a glitch with the installer at the moment that stops them being installed properly, and placing the file in there is the work-around :D I'm glad that sorted it.
