Buying houses/Lots?

I can't seem to figure out how to purchase a lot/house in the adventure mode

If your Sim has a level 3 visa, the option to buy a vacation home will come up on the phone when you're in the vacation town.  Or if you have a computer it can be done that way.  I think a Sim with a level 3 visa can also use the computer at home to purchase a vacation home, but I'm not 100% sure as I've never done it that way.
