Auto-Lights

When you click on a light one of the options is Auto-Lights.

I would assume that means that light would automatically turn on when someone enters the room and then automatically turns off again when the last sim has left the room.

Unless I'm missing something it doesn't seem to be working right. They do turn on when a sim enters the room but they don't turn when the room is empty again.

Is that how that's supposed to work?

The only time lights turn off in my game is when the whole house falls asleep or a frugal sim turns them off when idle.

With my sims the lights always go out at night, but I have had, sometimes, them go out when they leave a room; such as the kitchen after dinner.  What can be frustrating is the light going out after they get up to get the toddler out of the crib to feed on the floor, go back to bed and the light goes out; leaving the kid stuck in the dark.
My toddler lots of times get their days and night mixed up (mimicing real life?), I just use that time for reading the books.  But the lights going off scares them, drop in moodlet.  I've learned to be ready to turn the lights back on anymore.

As for frugal, one of my sims married a guy who had that, he drove me nuts; so I cheated and changed it.  He was constantly turning things off; get up to go pee, and he would turn the tv off.  Go to get something to eat and as they bring a plate back he turns the fireplace off.   Any time he walked into a room he would turn off the tv, fireplace, music or lights, sometimes not caring if there was another sim in the room.

This reminds me of the actions made by a sim with the Absent-Minded trait. Did the husband have that by any chance?

No, he didn't have the Absent-Minded trait.  He was Frugal, Artistic, Bookworm, Family Oriented and Clumbsy.  I used the cheat to change the frugal to C. Whiz.  His lifetime Wish was to be something that most of his traits would have been useless, something to do with music.  I changed it to P. Author, as he was always wanting to write books.

My sim became friends with him from visits to Egypt.  She invited him over and they became married.  I keep getting the stupid wish to ask him to say and to get married.

On the frugal part, once I changed that he left the lights and fireplace alone and was able to enjoy the moodlet from it.    ;D
