Question on family trees
« on: October 14, 2012, 11:32:21 AM »
When the founders of my family died, they stopped showing up in the family tree.
Is there a way to keep them in, or do I need to keep my own records?  I have in a notebook actually all the info of all family, with each member up to when I move that sim out.

So, I have all the info on paper, but it would be nice to click on a family member and not see only the present members, but past ones also.  Even if just the sims who stayed in the house.

The family tree can only show so many Sims in it and I think it's something like 5 tops.  What generation are you on?  Or are you talking about them becoming transparent? Did you change towns at any point and didn't take their gravestone with you?  Changing towns can also erase family ties.

What generation are you choosing to look at your founder?  Did you choose your founder's child to see if they still show as a parent or did you choose a grandchild or great grandchild?  Also when sims die for some reason the game will break up a marriage so you lose them being right next to each other in the family tree and would have to choose their child or grandchild to see them both if I remember correctly.

I had to grin, a lot of questions.

In this family I am at the stage of third generation, looking for spouses for the third generation.  Mom and Dad (he was a townie), founders, have died and are on the lot.  They are no longer on the tree.  I have looked at the son's and the D-I-L and do not see the founders, even though they had shown up in both before they died.  The mom's was there after hubby died, but I don't remember if dead hubby was there or not, I am thinking he was grayed out though, but not sure.

Haven't change towns, or moved them since they all moved into that home, which was before the fourth and fifth child was born (founder's wish was surrounded by family).  Moved out the first four and kept the youngest as he had a high school sweetheart and they married just after school.
They are in the house with their three children, who have turned to YA, I don't remember checking theirs, but I will do that to see if they are there.  They were before the founders (their grandparents) died.  Tombstones are in the back side yard, created to hold family plots, at least until I get fed up with the ghosts.

I am planning on playing this family definitely to fifth generation.  Then I will set aside, focus on other families and go back later to go to seventh.

Hope this answers all the guestions.   :)

When the ghosts come out do they still hold the title mother, father or grandparent?  :D  Sorry for all the questions, I think it might be a broken family tree glitch that you have.   You didn't change anything else recently right?  Didn't add new mods to your gameplay?

I don't mind the questions, that helps to learn the info that is needed to make decisions.

I think they go by the same, if my memory is right, when the father was talking to his DIL, it came up talking to daughter-in-law.
Nope, and this was before I installed SN, so that can't be the problem.  As for mods, I need to find out if my computer can handle them.

Since this is the first family to lose any of the founders so far, I can't compare it to any of them.  One did die, but she had a death flower so was spared.

This is my first family that I created, not the first one played, but one that I kept to go that far.  They are a special one to me so I really want to keep track of them.  I have in a notebook all the info of all family members in all of my games; LTW, traits, skills and what level, careers, jobs held, and who I moved out.
So, I won't lose anything, just was wondering why they stopped showing after they died.
