You can't place paintings or photographs in CAW. They don't export. I made lots of lovely paintings for my art gallery and homes in my last world, and even downloaded some custom paintings then took photos of them so they was technically no custom content in my houses - but they show up blank with that yucky red and yellow squiggle on them. They do save with lots that you export though I think. So if you want to make an art gallery for separate download, that would work.

I used to have The Sims (i.e. Sims 1), and Bob Newbie was the tutorial character... maybe he just visits new worlds! I get kind of whimsical about the Sims, so it's pleasing to me that it's this particular character that has shown up :)

As for *why* he's shown up - it's a mystery to me! The only thing I can think of is that he's part of the world package file somehow (and needed a lot to be created in order to show).

I just did some more testing: loaded a brand new Riverview File to CAW and then to EiG and left it run on high speed for about a week sim-time. No Robert Newbie or other townies to be seen.  ???

Say hi to him:

 ;D

Sorry to double post but... I exported the world, installed it (according to the Launcher, succesfully) but when I load the game, the world doesn't show up. Am I missing something? This already happened to me the first time I installed Riverview (a couple of years ago) but I can't remember how I fixed it  ::).

Great! Thanks  :)

So, any books I add to any building from a Sim's inventory should stay there even though I uninstall the world from the game and delete the save files? I'm guessing no, so I guess I should just leave that for later, but still, I wanred to check  :).

I don't think that works...certain things are attached to the save files, I have discovered. From my experience, there are just some things you have to do Post-CAW, that is, when the world is complete. It might also require you to include a separate save file for people to download or pre-populate the world, if you are planning to share it, that is.
I know written books can be transferred if they are in the sim's Personal inventory.
But Nraas might have a mod for this I think.

About Ghosts - My solution was to place the tomb stones in certain sims inventories, and of course I had sims that were on death's door to get things started

I haven't tried pre-population myself, so I can't give reviews about it. But when working with a separate save file, all the memories, pictures, photos and other related stuff  that is created by your sim accumulates in a file called the TavelDB.package file in the Saves folder. Which can get as large as 500mb or more I am sure. So, for sharing purposes you have to delete it, to make the save file smaller. But you lose the photos and paintings. You don't lose books if they are in the personal inventory, the photos and pictures are blank, but they still have their value and so can be sold for cash.

Cool! Thanks for the infor Krrank! I will have a little less testing to do thanks to you  :) (and I have to say, CAW is growing me half the grey hairs as before since I discovered your blog!  ;D)

Wow, thanks for the info Krrank. It's easier to understand when you know where things are stored and why. So, all these sim created things are removed from CAW when you export it? Because I've found houses that you export with paintings and photos keep them. What if you made a copy of the resources that you wanted to keep, and then put them back in after you exported it? What happens exactly when you export a world? Does it just package it, or does it do other things that make it work in game?

In this topic I shared some of the findings what is and what is not transfered trough CAW, but that was year and a half ago so some things may change.

Later on I find out that bugs in terrariums are not transfered neither, they appear empty in exported world.
CAW seems to reset all objects in world into buyable default ones and all Sim related objects or effects are deleted in the process. I am not shore if Porter mod by Twallan is covering that part too as that mod aloud you to transfer tombstones (with spawnable ghosts) and relationships into CAW.
I've read a lot of complains about transfering tombstones in inventories and even on lots except the generic ones from buydebug, but can't confirm them as I didn't dare to try it.
Only way I find to save custom written books in bookshelfs is to kill all household members and have the "end of the game" appear, as only then family possesions are left on lot and in a world. Not shore if that will survive CAW but at least they can be saved in a bin that way.
